A birthday filled with food

I had a wonderful birthday!

Jim and Thor woke up before me and on the first potty walk J took T to the next door diner and got me a coffee and waffles with berries. He wanted me to get breakfast in bed but I had already gotten up (and I don’t like food in bed anyway so I didn’t mind him setting it up on the bar). Aww so sweet. And then he left for work.

I had a long todo list on yesterday, but I had some of the cleaning left, so I spent all morning cleaning and organizing so that we can come home to a nice apartment on Saturday.

I showered, got ready and was picked up by Daniela and her mom. We drove to the shopping center area and had coffees and cookies at a cafe there. We had a nice time together, and she got me a present, the only actual gift I got this year (that’s how it is getting old, no more presents haha). Jim came to pick me up after work and we drove home. My sweet hubby got me this cute pink chocolate fudge birthday cake. I guess that’s a gift;) We shared one slice, I changed clothes and we walked downtown to Siena Restorante. I really had taste for their mushroom pasta with truffle taste. Aah, its amazing!

We were pretty full after that so we walked home and packed our bags. Now I’m in bed ready for our roadtrip tomorrow!

Mountain Hike

On Saturday, we woke up, got ready and drove to Mountain Lakes Park in North Salem (NY). It was about a 35 minute drive and we got there right after 9am. We have been there once before (check it out HERE) and really liked it. This time we decided to walk it backwards, so we started with the lookout point and then continued into the woods. It was very humid and we had to make sure we and Thor drank enough water along the way. Very quiet and peaceful, we didn’t meet many on our way which was kinda nice.

We decided to not walk the full round like we did the last time cause it was hot, we have both been sick and it would be tough for Thor in this heat. Still ended up walking 3.5 miles which I think is pretty good for Thor a summer saturday morning:)

Midsommar away again

As I wrote in last post, we ended up celebrating Midsommar a day late. Thor had a spa appointment at noon on Saturday so after dropping him off we went home and I created a wreath of the daisies we had bought a few days earlier while Jim cut apples in pieces. I fixed my hair a little, changed clothes and made an apple pie.
We packed a picnic bag and drove to Cove Island. We found a spot in the shade. It was a bit cloudy and windy, but it felt Swedish haha. After awhile, we drove back home and not long after we could go pick Thor up at the spa. We had asked for a short haircut but leave a little in the face, but his face was as short as the rest, oh well, it’s hot outside and it’ll grow back. He kinda looks like a tiny fox or more like a cat now, not so much like a Thor, but whatever, he’s still cute.
For dinner we had grilled salmon and potatis with dill on everything, our apartment smelled like my grandma’s house back when I was a kid.
We grabbed drinks and took our exhausted puppy up to the rooftop and watched the sunset.

We had a perfect Midsummer celebration! I’m very happy with how the day turned out. Midsummer is the one day a year when I really want to be in Sweden. The hours of light in a day during summer is one of my favorite things in life. When I was a kid I never pulled the curtains down when I went to sleep. I loved waking up when the sun hit my face in the morning. You don’t get as many hours of sleep during summer months but it’s worth it. On Midsummer, the sun doesn’t really go down, I love it!
This was my 9th (!!) Midsommar away from Sweden. Every year I tell my husband the same thing “Maybe next year we can celebrate Midsommar in Sweden”. I said it this year again and we’ll see:)

Thor celebrated Midsommar on Friday when he was still fluffy

sick week & a roller coaster of feelings

Jim started last week with pink eyes and ended up working from home until Friday. Since it’s super contagious I made the bed with new sheets for him and then slept on the couch for three nights and then washed towels, sheets and all the surfaces. Along with his pink eyes he had the sniffles so I tried to stay out of the apartment as much as possible so I wouldn’t end up sick too.
Tuesday: Blood test in the morning and then I hung out with Daniela all day and spent some time with two of her friends and their babies.

Wednesday: I was busy cleaning, doing stuff on my computer and dealing with the confusing news from my doctor. Went grocery shopping for the Friday celebration and then just took it easy.
Thursday: Took the train into Manhattan to see my friend Jeanette who was here for a week. We spent a few hours together. I went shopping by myself and then went for a long sweaty walk to Grand Central and took the train back home.
Friday: Woke up feeling like crap. Jim felt ok enough to go to work. I had barely slept all night and I almost felt hungover when I walked over to the hospital next to our apartment for my tests. My new doctor wanted me to try a new place for tests. I gave blood and had to pee in a cup. And then I spent all day on the couch. Not a very fun Midsommar, so we decided to celebrate the next day instead. We ended up having a really nice evening anyway though with grilled pork and rice on the rooftop.

I thought I would wake up feeling like normal today, but I’m much worse. Woke up at 3:30 am coughing, my throat and ears hurt and I feel mushy. Blaaah. Oh well, what’s one more day of rest? At least it’s nice weather:)Â
