Fever Dance

It has been raining outside almost all day, I might have had fever all day as well, Thor has been tired and there is a thousand thoughts in my head. Today is also my grandma’s birthday. She passed away a few days after her birthday last year so these coming days might be tough ones. She’s in my thoughts today.

In the afternoon, after a short and wet walk with T, I came back in and pressed play on the random music list I had played on the computer before we went out. Short thereafter, an interesting song came on and I just had to dance. Below is a part of the improvisation I did. It felt good to move and let the body take over. After that, I had to sit down, haha. But it felt nice to forget that I was sick for a few minutes:)

Sitting sideways

So, a weird thing happened to me on Tuesday. As you know, we are a few neighbors who gathers every other week to talk about meditation. On Tuesday it was at first only the woman who arrange this and me there, and after a half hour or so a neighbor and her friend, both from Brazil, showed up. Together we did a meditation focused on the 7 chakras.

We started with the root chakra and worked on each all the way up to the crown and on each one we used a breathing technique. It was pretty long time on each chakra. By the time we came to focus on the throat and the third eye, my body started spinning until it felt like I sat completely sideways. It felt like my body, that was upright and crosslegged, and the armchair I sat in suddenly were glued to the wall next to us. I didn’t want to open my eyes, cause I wanted to see where this experience could take me. But I tried to have myself back to normal sitting, but it was just not possible, I could not move. Of course I wasn’t actually floating sideways, I was probably in the same position as I started the whole time, but it really felt like I was sitting on the wall with my right side of the body facing the floor. Whatever I was thinking to get myself back didn’t work, and then of course I was working hard to not think. So much was going on at the same time. When we finally opened our eyes, it felt like I had been on a roller coaster for an hour and I had to hold on to the chair. I don’t know for how long we were meditating, but it was for a pretty long time, and it definitely did stuff.

It wasn’t a scary experience, just weird. I’ve experienced stuff during meditations plenty of times before, but never have I been hanging on a wall sideways before. I’ve been pretty light-headed lately so I’m sure that has something to do with it. And I read that when eyes are closed and your body is still for a longer time, the mind might forget what direction the body is because it is used to that the body is moving around. I meditate almost every day, but usually for shorter times, so it could be a combination of that I was tired at night and that I wasn’t used to sit for that long.

Alive@Five: Cee Lo Green

Every Thursday during the summer, Stamford has a concert event called Alive@Five. We went there on Thursday. The concerts doesn’t actually start until later, but they open the gates at 5. The whole area is blocked off and the restaurants have some deals for their outdoor seatings. Plenty of companies trying to promote whatever they have (our building had a tent there trying to rent out the last few apartments that is left).

We started with dinner at a Mexican place while the first band, Oak & Ash, played in the background. Then we walked around and checked everything out, got some free stuff before CeeLo Green came on stage. I don’t know much of his music, but he has some famous song and it was a fun night.

Our 4th of July

I hope you all had an awesome celebration yesterday. We had a pretty relaxed Fourth of July. Nothing really exciting happening in the morning and in the afternoon we went to the grocery store, grilled burgers at home, I baked an apple pie and we hung out on our terrace. Around 9pm we went to the rooftop of our building that is facing the other side than our apartment. All fireworks were kinda further away so we decided to go back to our terrace instead. On Friday and Saturday there was a lot of fireworks that we had a perfect view over (I read online later that those were the big 4th of July fireworks for the city). There was a few fireworks yesterday but nothing major, but it didn’t bother us since we had watched it all on both Fri and Sat. It was just nice to enjoy our terrace. Thor was sleeping in my lap and J was dj’ing on his phone.

Having an outdoor space really is amazing. We have lived in NYC for over 6 years and even if we could go up on the rooftop or sit in the park to enjoy the outside, it’s not the same. Our terrace here is private (which is the only one in the building I think that is) which is super nice. It’s not as cozy and decorated as I wish it to be yet. But at night, all you need is a candle and its cozier already:)

Tubing

Happy 4th of July!

Yesterday, after my husband and Thor came home from work, we were spontaneously invited to join my husbands boss on his boat. We drove down to Larchmont, NY, where they live and together we went to the boat. A nice speedboat that we drove pretty quickly out in the ocean. On the way out we could see the NYC skyline a bit away, always nice to see the city:) Their daughter was excited to go tubing. She looked so happy and wanted to go faster and faster. When she was done it was my turn. I have never done this before but I like to try new things. I figured out pretty quickly that you can steer with your legs. It was so much fun! Then Jim went before we went back to land where their older daughter was waiting.

The Larchmont Yacht Club, founded in 1880, has a huge pool with several different sections. One thing I guess that they are known for is that the pool water is a mix of saltwater and chlorine and they have a cute beach there, all separated by a wall to the actual ocean. They are rebuilding it to a normal pool for next year, so it was cool that we got to visit this now. We played in the water for a bit. The men and the daughters were trying to do tricks off the diving board. After a quick freshening up, we all went for a dinner at the outdoor seating restaurant at the club. Very cute. I ordered a croissant lobster roll that was amazing.

We had a fun afternoon. So nice of Mike to invite us out there.  A very fun summer activity.
