We had a really nice weekend. On Friday I met Jim and a guy he works with at a bar. When the guy left, J and I walked two blocks East on 30th Street and had the most amazing food at The Cannibal. The name says it all. Places like that is a reason I can never be a full time vegetarian, haha. Every bite was just too good to be true.
On Saturday we went to 14th street, left some clothes to Goodwill and then we had brunch at one of our favorite places, Brazen Fox. We sat on their little outdoor balcony for the first time. Very cute. The food was amazing as always. I can’t really remember what else we did that day, so probably nothing exciting:)
We have started to make a list of things we want to do when we live in NY and one thing was to take the new path train across the Hudson River to New Jersey and visit the Liberty State Park. The station is brand new and you walk inside the “dinosaur” (that’s my nickname for their new building next to wtc) to get to the trains. It was such beautiful day and a nice view of Manhattan, so we decided to walk instead of take another train from the station in NJ.
When we got to the Hudson River in Liberty Park we stopped for ice cream, which of course melted in a sec haha. I didn’t know this, but you can take the boat to Statue of Liberty from this side too so there were plenty of tourists on their way to the statue. Eventually we found out that the water taxi to Manhattan actually went from that side of NJ where we were, so that became a quick way home. We finished our day watching the basketball final of course.

Throwback: A day in Copenhagen

We are always flying in and out of Copenhagen when we go to Sweden, because it’s the closest airport with direct flights to NY. When my husband and I were gonna fly back home from our vacation in Sweden in August last year, we had a flight at 8 am in the morning on a Monday. We decided that it was best to book a hotel in Copenhagen for that last night.
My lovely parents drove us all the way over, took us to the hotel, joined us for lunch and then they drove back home again. Jim and I spent the afternoon as tourists. I have been in Copenhagen some times before but never really been a tourist. I’ve been there on school trips which mostly mean sitting in a bus, I’ve been to the amusement park with my parents when I was a kid, I’ve been to dance auditions, but never been a real tourist.
Of course we went to see the Castle, the little mermaid (Den lille havefrue) and Nyhavn with all the restaurants. It started to rain after a while so we walked in to a random bar, but they closed at 7. We walked around for quite some time until we found something that was open. Strange. Even if it was a Sunday night we still expected the Danish to party all night long in bars, but nope, they didn’t. Eventually when we had been to two other bars and also finally found some food, we decided to go back to the hotel. We had to get up so early anyway.
Copenhagen was cute and I’m glad we got to see it. But I didn’t get that wow experience like some of my American friends talked about. There was construction everywhere and you couldn’t see big parts of the city (and you could definitely not drive anywhere). It also rained a bit which makes any city boring. I don’t know, maybe I’m too Swedish to appreciate it. But overall, my husband seemed to enjoy it and I’m glad I finally got to be a tourist in a city I ones wanted to move to (for school). I want to go back and go to other parts of the city that I’ve been before and I actually want to go to Legoland, with or without a kid, hihi.

The Cloister

New York is a sweaty place these days. Summer has just begun and we have between 27 an 32°c every day and it’s so humid that it feels like walking into a sauna every time you leave your home. But this is what I love. I prefer to be able to sweat whenever I want and then go inside to sit by the air conditioner rather than freeze no matter where I am.
Anyway. Hi!
I thought I would share some photos from Saturday when my husband and I took the subway up to 190 St and walked around the area of where The Met Cloister is. It’s so beautiful there in the spring/summer. I have been there once before and I have been wanting to bring Jim up there. Beautiful view of the Hudson River and nice walks.
We got off the subway on the wrong side and some weird person with barely any teeth took us around and told us many stories about the area, which actually was fun. The Cloister is kinda small and it doesn’t take much time to go through it, but it’s interesting and Jim seemed to enjoy it. I mostly just wanted to get away from the city and be in the nature for a few hours. It’s nice to be able to do this and not even leave Manhattan.

New York ar svettigt dessa dagar.
Iallafall. Hej!
Vacker utsikt over The Hudson River och trevliga promenader.

Approved

Hello! It’s been awhile. How are you guys?
Yesterday I got the great news that I am approved for Permanent Residence in the United States of America. I can’t even explain how happy I am and what a relief this is.
The whole day was full of good energy and I had a strong feeling that yesterday was gonna be great. I went to 18th Street and took my very first Kundalini yoga class taught by my friend Jeanette. Wonderful class and I was surprised over that my body did so well, but my guess is that everything felt good because I came into the class with such open heart and mind. When the class was over and I had gathered my things, I saw an email on my phone. At first I didn’t really understand what I was reading. Last week I sent a message to my lawyer that I was worried about that my papers where gonna expire, so at first I thought it was something about that. But then I realized that the email was telling me that I am approved for my second Green Card and that if I want to I can apply for citizenship soon. So happy! I went to HU with J for some fika and I kinda forgot about it until I was on my way home. I stood there on the subway train and almost started to cry of happiness.
My love for my husband doesn’t change because of a card or not. We just want to be together and we have decided to stay here, so to be approved by his country means a lot to me. We were expecting to be approved, but I have still been worried, cause you never know. The process this time took almost a year (crazy!) so I have been feeling stressed about it for a long time. But now, I’m approved 🙂
I am in no rush to apply for a citizenship. I read that a lot of people actually never apply for one, they just renew their Green Card every ten years. It would be kinda nice to not have to deal with these papers for the rest of my life, so maybe I apply to become a citizen before this card expires, but I have a lot of time now to think about it:)

Hej!

fettisdagen

imageToday is what we call the “fat Tuesday” in Sweden (mardi gras) and on this day we eat a “semla“. I never got one last year, because some little cutie decided it was time to be born on the day when we, the Swedish girls, had decided to meet for a semla, so I was happy that I got one at Fika today. I’m not a huge fan of semla, but it’s nice to keep some Swedish traditions like eating a semla on “fettisdagen” or a kanelbulle on cinnamon bun day or watch Donald Duck at 3 pm on Dec 24th.
