1. They’re not checking you out to see how flexible you are (or aren’t)
2. They don’t like when you push yourself too hard
3. They wish you’d ask questions or for assistance
4. They don’t care if you pass gas
5. They aren’t grossed out by your sweat
6. They want you to speak up if an assist hurts or makes you uncomfortable
7. They wish you didn’t come to class to “sweat out your sick”
8. They love when you bring your own yoga mat to class
9. They want you to practice at least twice a week
10. They don’t mind if you take class from another instructor
11. They like when you get to class a little early and prefer you stay until class is over

Jag ar inte yoga larare, men jag har undervisat dans i manga manga ar och dessa punkter galler for vilken dansklass man an tar (forutom punkt 8 🙂 ).
Lararen finns dar for att hjalpa dig att bli battre. Det ar manga elever som kanner sig obekvama med just beroring och att svetten rinner. Som larare vill man att eleven ska forsta och gora ratt for att undvika skador och for att forbattra sig sjalv och da ar beroring ibland det lattaste sattet att korrigera. Och att svetten rinner ar naturligt och det visar pa att din kropp arbetar. 

Jag skulle ocksa lagga till tre punkter. 1. Har du langt har ar det battre for dig att satta upp det sa att det inte stor dig under lektionen. 2. Valj klader som du kan rora dig i och kanner dig bekvam med istallet for att kla dig i det som ar trendigt. 3. Om dar finns en spegel i salen, anvand den som ett redskap for att korrigera dig sjalv och inte for att se hur din kropp ser ut. Manga dansare stirrar pa spegelbilden och glommer bort att kanna hur ovningarna ar i kroppen. Alldeles for manga dansare far atstorningar pga spegeln sa nar jag undervisar gora jag garna ovningar at andra hallet sa att eleven slipper tanka pa hur haret ser ut, om rumpan ar stor eller att jamfora sig med andra dansare. Yoga ska vara nagot som du gor for att ma bra, inte for att det later coolt och en dans-/yogaklass ar ingen modevisning. 

I’m not a yoga teacher, but I have taught dance for many many years and these points goes for whatever dance class you take (except point 8 🙂 ).
The teacher is there to help you to get better. There is a lot of students that is uncomfortable with for example touching and to be sweaty. As a teacher you want your student to understand and do right to avoid getting hurt and to improve themselves and then touching is sometimes the easiest way to correct. And that you sweat is natural and it shows that your body is working.

I want to add three things. 1. If you have longer hair then it’s better for you to out it up so that it doesn’t bother you during the class. 2. Choose clothes that you can move in and that you feel comfortable with  rather than what is trendy. 3. If there is a mirror in the studio, use it as a tool to correct yourself and not to check your body out. Many dancers are staring at themselves and forgets to feel how the exercises are in the body. Way too many dancers have eating disorders because of the mirror so when I teach I prefer to make the exercises in the other direction so that the student don’t have to think about how their hair looks like, if their butt is big or compare to the other dancers. Yoga should be something that you do to feel good, not because it sounds cool and a dance-/yogaclass is not a fashion show.

Stretch that butt

Det pratas nu mycket om rumpor och squats. Alla vill fa en snygg rumpa och alla tror att squats ska ge den dar perfekta rumpan. 
Oavsett om du gor en miljon squats och stravar efter en Beyonce rumpa eller om du tar massor med dansklasser eller vad det nu ar for traning du gor, sa behovs rumpan ocksa stretchas. Jag tankte tipsa om en bra stretch for rumpan. Jag tycker att den har stretchen ar riktigt bra. Med den har stretchen behover man inte anstranga andra muskler for att fa till en bra stretch, vilket ar skont efter en dansklass eller en workout.

People are talking about the butt and squats a lot. Everybody wants a nice butt and everybody thinks that squats will give that perfect butt. 
Whether you are doing a million squats and are aiming for a Beyonce butt or if you take a lot of dance classes or whatever work out you do, your butt also needs to stretch. I’m going to suggest a good stretch for the butt. I think this stretch is really good. With this stretch you don’t need much effort from other muscles to get a good stretch, which is nice after a dance class or a workout.

Ligg med benen upp mot vaggen. Kann att ryggraden ar lang, huvudet stravar at ett hall och svanskotan at det andra hallet. Slappna av i axlar och kann att halsen ar lang. Har man korta och tighta hamstrings (baksida lar) kan man boja lite pa knana eller lagga nagot under rumpan.
Boj hogra benet och flexa foten. Kanske ar det sahar langt du kommer. Om du inte kanner tillrakligt i hoger sida av rumpan, boj da vanster ben. OM du fortfarande inte kanner att det stretchar kan du vrida ut vanster ben (at vanster). Jag gillar aven att lagga hoger hand pa hoger kna och ge ett latt tryck. Lek lite och se hur Du far basta stretchen fin Din rumpa.

Lie on your back with legs up the wall. Feel that the spine is long, head is going one direction and the tailbone the other direction. Relax your shoulders and feel the neck long. If you have short or tight hamstrings (back thigh) then you can bend your knees a little or put something underneath your butt. 
Bend the right leg and flex the foot. Maybe this is how far you can go. If you don’t feel enough in your right side of the butt, bend your left leg. IF you still don’t feel that you are stretching, then you can turn out the left leg (to the left). I also like to put my right hand on the right knee and give easy pressure. Play around and see how You get the best stretch for Your butt.

Jag har inte dansat mycket med taspetsskor. Jag skulle garna lara mig mer men jag har inte riktigt varit intresserad forut. Jag alskar att dansa barfota och kanna golvet under mig och med skor far man en annan kansla och ett annat forhallande till golvet. Men, dans med taspets ar valdigt vackert att se:)

I haven’t danced much on point shoes. I would love to learn more but I haven’t really been interested before. I love to dance barefoot and feel the floor underneath me and with shoes you get a different feeling and a different relationship with the floor. But, dance on point shoes i very beautiful to look at:)

Capezio

Vi har varit i Midtown idag. Vi gick bl.a till Capezio store. Oh, det var ett bra tag sen jag var i en dansbutik. Kande mig som hemma men anda sa borta. Det var langesen jag kopte en ny dans leotard. Av nagon anledning under tiden pa Dans och Cirkushogskolan slutade man mer och mer att kla sig i “riktiga” dansklader. Man blev alltmer fattigare och brydde sig mindre om hur manga hal man hade i kladerna, haha. Nar jag kom till NY hade jag en enda dansdrakt kvar som jag korde slut pa. Det var nu alltsa dags for en ny drakt och till en borjan blev det bara en drakt och ett par nya tights. *Glad*

We were in Midtown today. We went among other things to Capezio store. Oh, it has been a long time since I was in a dance store. Felt like home but also so far away. It’s been long time since I bought a new dance leotard. For some reason during the time at University of Dance and Circus you stopped more and more to dress in “real” dance clothes. You became poorer and you cared less about how many holes you had in your clothes, haha. When I came to NY I only had one dance body left that I used util the end of it. So it was now time to buy a new body and I only got one to begin with and a pair of new tights. *Happy*

CPR

Igar hade Emma och jag en trevlig sushi middag i Bushwick. Efterat gick vi till kvallens forestallning: cpr – Center for Performance Research, Chez Bushwick Presents Lilja Rúriksdóttir
Sa roligt att se Liljas koreografi. Det kandes som att jag tittade pa Lilja under rehearsal i tre andra personers kroppar. Dansarna gjorde verkligen ett bra jobb. 
Det regnar idag. Vi hade tankt aka till Brooklyn, men det kanns inte sa kul i regnet. Vi far se vad vi gor idag. Thor verkar trott idag, ligger mest och sover i sin lilla “soffa” har bredvid oss. 

Yesterday, Emma and I had a great sushi dinner in Bushwick. After that we went to the evenings performance: cpr – Center for Performance Research, Chez Bushwick Presents Lilja Rúriksdóttir.
So fun to see Lilja’s choreography. It felt like I was watching Lilja in rehearsal in three other peoples bodies. The dancers really did a good job.
It is raining today. We thought we would go to Brooklyn, but it doesn’t feel that fun in the rain. We we’ll see what we end up doing. Thor seems tired today, mostly sleeping in his little “couch” here next to us.
