Today is what we call the “fat Tuesday” in Sweden (mardi gras) and on this day we eat a “semla“. I never got one last year, because some little cutie decided it was time to be born on the day when we, the Swedish girls, had decided to meet for a semla, so I was happy that I got one at Fika today. I’m not a huge fan of semla, but it’s nice to keep some Swedish traditions like eating a semla on “fettisdagen” or a kanelbulle on cinnamon bun day or watch Donald Duck at 3 pm on Dec 24th.
Snapshots from this week

My sister has been here for almost a week now. It has been nice to just hang out and really spend time with her this first week. We have mostly just walked around different areas and taking it pretty easy. The weather has been nice most of the time, except one morning with snow that melted away within like two hours, so it has been nice to be outside.
On Wednesday we met Jeanette at Brookfield Place and saw a free modern dance performance with Stephen Petronio Company. The first piece was a Merce Cunningham piece with Andy Warhol art in the background and improvised live music and the second was a piece by the company that seemed kinda like the same type of movements. I liked it. It got a little dull at times but over all, it was interesting. And I have actually never seen a Cunningham piece on stage before so I enjoyed that.

Caffe Reggio
“Caffe Reggio is proud to be the first caffe
in the United States to serve Cappuccino”
I found out online that there is a cafe in Greenwich Village that has been there since 1927. Domenico Parisi brought the cappuccino to America and they still have the espresso machine, from 1902, at the cafe today (not in use of course, but still pretty cool). The cappuccino wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but good enough and the lunch sandwich that I ordered was great. This is a small place with tables very close to each other, but still a cozy feel to it and it really does feel old with all the art work in the room. I tried to picture how it was to sit at this cafe and sip a cappuccino back in the old days.
A coffee lover like me loves to visit places like this. New York is relatively a new city but there is plenty of interesting history and a lot is kept. New York City is definitely one of the coolest cities to discover.
The BOSS at Madison Square Garden

On Wednesday I finally got to see Bruce Springsteen live. Madison Square Garden was completely packed and everybody was singing along and were very active. This was one of the best concerts I’ve been to because of that. I don’t know many of the songs from this tour but being in a crowd that was so excited and knew every word was still a lot of fun, even if I couldn’t sing along myself. It’s fun to go to a concert when everybody is so engaged.
To see “The Boss” live has been on my mind since I was a little girl. Every time my parents have gone to a Springsteen concert, I have been a little jealous. I’m not a huge Springsteen fan, but it has always been on my list of concerts I want to go to. And now I have and it was in New York City and at one of the best places for concerts. I am very grateful for the things my husband and I get to do because of J’s job. Now I can take this of my list of things to do 🙂
I am also very impressed to see this 66 year old man, who’s btw in very good shape, still be so awesome on stage. The audience was a lot older, in fact, my husband and I was some of the youngest there, and I think that proves that he is one of the best artists who can keep his fans along the way.
