Busy Saturday

Hi my friends! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! I wasn’t feeling too awesome yesterday and the day just flew right by, so I’ll update you guys on our weekend today instead:)
We were pretty busy on Saturday. Early in the morning, we bought coffee and then went on a mini road trip (according to my husband, any drive over an hour can be called a road trip, haha). We drove to the southeast part of Cornwall, NY, by Hudson River, to visit the Storm King Art Center. It’s a huge park with large scale sculptures.
In the afternoon, I finished the making of my costume and then began my make-up project for the evening. We had tickets for the yearly Half Full Brewery Halloween Party. I think our costumes came out pretty awesome.
On Sunday, we had brunch at a diner nearby, Jim and Thor watched football down in the common area in our building, we had dinner at Lucky’s (wanted to sit outside but there were too many bees) and then we watched the movie Dead Poets Society. Not much interesting, just a whatever Sunday:)
The weather was awesome all weekend. Cold in the morning and then super warm in the afternoon. I had a jacket on when we came to the park on Saturday and then ended up sweating in a thin top. Love it!

making costumes

Hello! How are you guys? Have you watched my latest youtube video? Thor is just too cute:) If you like to see more videos, please leave a comment here on the blog or head over to youtube and write a comment there.

I spent a lot of yesterday in a creative mood. Buying Halloween costumes is easy, but boring, cause you might end up looking exactly the same as someone else. I think the whole point of Halloween or any costume party is to create something on your own. It doesn’t matter if it’s the greatest thing ever or if it looks like dog poo, homemade costumes are always more fun. So, this year I decided that all our costumes will be handmade. We are going to a brewery party thing tomorrow and J has come up with something last minute for himself and I am creating something for me. For next weekend and for the actual Halloween day we have other costume ideas. We have one family theme for all three of us and then other more simple and easy ideas. It was so much fun to do the make-up two years ago and I want more make-up challenges for myself this year again. I don’t care too much about clothing, details and makeup is more fun:)

This week has been very up and down in weather. Extremely cold in the morning and then summer in the afternoon. It’s very pretty outside now though. Colorful trees and parks full of leaves. There’s a park that we want to go to before all the leaves has blown off the trees and hopefully we can drive there tomorrow before the party at night.

Pumpkin carving

Yesterday my hubby and I carved pumpkins. So much fun! We both decided to carve out more classic Halloween faces. We have a third pumpkin, and that one will be a Thor carving, if I can figure out a good way to do it:)

I wanted to use the whole pumpkin. We roasted seeds the last time and I actually followed my own suggestion from this blog post from 2013. They didn’t turn out the same way, I think I used a bit too much oil, but they taste awesome, almost tastes like popcorn. And then we googled what to do with the pumpkin guts. Lots of suggestions on making face masks or do pumpkin juice, and neither sounds fun. I saved the guts and stored it in the fridge for now cause I don’t want to waste food, but I really don’t know what to do with it. Do you have any suggestions?

I filmed all of it, so hopefully I can create a video for you guys and if so, it will be up on Wednesday evening. Now it’s time to take little stinky butt out for a walk. Have an awesome day!

MoviePass and the IT movie

Welcome to America, everything is huge!

My husband and I signed up for the Movie Pass a few weeks ago. It’s a card that you pay $9.95/month and you can go to basically any movie theater and see any movie you want. In the information we got it says you can only go see one movie per day, but the cashier girl yesterday said that she had some teenagers who saw like 4 movies in one day, so I don’t know. But it’s a great deal either way!

So last night was our first time to use the card. You need to sign in through their app before and then have your card scanned by the cashier person, and that’s it, now you have a movie ticket. We wanted to go see the new IT movie on Friday night (since it was the 13th), but it was a good thing we didn’t go then, cause everybody else, aka tons of teenagers, thought the same thing and the place had been packed. We went on the 10:10pm showing last night and we were maybe 8 people there.

IT was the first real scary movie I watched as a kid. I wasn’t allowed to watch scary movies at home yet, but my best friend at the time had an older brother who let us watch scary movies in his room. I remember that I didn’t think the movie was so scary while I watched it, but when I had to bike through the dark forest to get home that night, omg, I have probably never biked that fast ever before or after. The scene with the balloon in the sink has been haunting me many times in my life too, even as an adult especially since the pipes in NYC always makes weird noises, haha.

At first when I heard of a new IT movie coming out, I didn’t want to see it, cause I don’t usually like re-makes. But when I found out it’s a Swedish guy playing IT, I thought it could be fun and I was excited. Well, can’t say I liked it very much. Maybe because I knew what was gonna happen and I kept comparing to the old movie. But also, I haven’t really enjoyed scary movies made after like the early 90s. They are just not good. The Saw movies are ok cause they are kinda creepy, and American Psycho is the freakiest shit I’ve ever watched, but they are not scary. The movie was definitely ok and if you haven’t seen the first one, then it’s probably great. Except for that they had a “creepy house” where IT lived that looked just like any other scary movie houses, and that made the whole movie suck. Sorry, but that’s just a bad choice.

I could be nice and give the movie 3,5 stars of 5. I base that on that the “chubby kid” was an awesome actor, the scene with the girl in the bathroom was pretty well made (even though we were disappointed there was no balloon) and the Swedish guy seems like he can be a great actor too, if he just gets a better role.
