turn back time

Aug, 2016. It’s been 15 months, the longest I’ve ever been away from Sweden

Hello! How’s your weekend? Isn’t it nice to have an extra hour today?:) Jim flew to Minnesota on Friday after work and is not home until midnight today. So Thor and I have been spending the weekend alone here. Or, not completely alone, I skype’d with my sister for awhile yesterday and with my parents today:)

It’s nice sometimes to be alone. I’m glad that J got a chance to hang out with his friends in Minnesota. We both need time to miss each other sometimes.

My plan for the weekend was to take yoga classes and work out but my body said no. I told you about my right knee that was messing with me. It felt better on Friday and I decided to take Thor for a long walk. He was all excited and the weather was warmer so I was excited too. Well, we didn’t get far. All of a sudden it felt like someone shot an arrow through my left calf. Oh that pain. I tried to massage it away, but whenever I tried to take a step the pain was back. I don’t know how, but I somehow managed to have T do a nr 2 and then get us home. I was in so much pain that I even started to cry halfway back home. On top of this, the left side of the lower back/butt was tight and had started to be painful too a few hours earlier, and not being able to walk properly gave me pain in my right hip. Yup, my body was broken and tried to tell me to rest. So that’s what I did. I watched a movie on Friday night and went to bed early. Took it pretty easy all of Saturday and today I felt much much better. So I managed to clean the whole apartment spotless, do laundry, skype and take T for walks before the rain came. My body is not back to perfect yet, but it’s definitely functional now. I think I can go take class tomorrow.

It’s important to listen to the body and take care of it!

For the rest of today, I’m gonna make the bed when the dryer is done, read a book and have some tea, eat some kind of dinner and then maybe finish the day with a movie. Not the weekend I had in mind, but it’s been pretty nice anyway:)

stupid knees

Two days ago, my right knee started to mess with me. Actually, both knees did, but mostly the right one. I have had pain in my knees for like ten years and I’ve had several people check them and there’s nothing wrong. The pain moves around and shifts between the two, so it’s not just one type of pain. Usually I just need to do something in my neck and back; stretch, get a massage or have it cracked and I’m like a new person in my legs. And usually the pain is in the muscles. I can feel that I am tight in the quads and hamstrings, but this time it feels different. Stairs is hard and I can’t really squat down to play with Thor or whatever without it feels like the bones is gonna break. I’m sure it’s still the muscles that is weak and tight plus we’ve had a few colder days and my body doesn’t function like it should when it’s cold. But it’s scary. Even if people haven’t found anything wrong, you never know.

I have a bunch of exercises I can do and yesterday I went to the gym to work on strengthening the muscles around the knees, both with body weight and weight machines. Knee rehab is not new to me. I’m sure this will go away soon. Today I feel ok in my knees, but I haven’t been outside for a walk yet (J took T out this morning) or gone up and down stairs, so I’ll know more later. I would love to workout and do yoga this weekend, so hopefully this goes away quickly:)

My first Trick or Treat, and nobody came:(

I have lived in America for almost 7 years and never experienced Trick or Treat. In our old neighborhood there was lots of kids (we also lived next to a school) and every year they had a list you could sign up on and kids would follow a map to find the doors for Trick or Treat. We never signed up, we either weren’t home or didn’t have time. This year we decided we wanted to be a part of it. We bought candy and grabbed a paper downstairs to hang on the door. We don’t have any Halloween decorations really so I printed out some things to put on the door and then placed our pumpkins and scull candle holders outside the door. Thor had his monster costume on, Jim put his wizard Mickey hat on and I had my Minnie ears and painted a mouse nose.

When it was 6pm, I was so excited! There aren’t really any kids living in this building, there are like 3-5 kids, but I was hoping to at least have one child coming. Nobody came:( So disappointed. I was all worked up about it, and then nothing. We saw several apartments who had pumpkin buckets with candy out in the hallway, and that’s what we ended up doing too after waiting for two hours.

So now we have a lot of candy at home. It’s gonna be hard to stay away from it. Self-control…no, I don’t have much of that when it comes to candy, haha.

Speaking of our old neighborhood (Battery Park City), it’s horrible what happened yesterday. Thor and I walked there all the time. I’m glad we don’t live there now. My friend told me she had been there 10 minutes before it happened, I’m happy she’s ok. My thoughts goes out to everyone there♥

Storm King Art Center

It’s about an hour drive from our apartment in Stamford to the southeast part of Cornwall, NY, by Hudson River and Storm King Art Center. We drove on the highway there and the more scenic roads home. When we came there, 20 minutes after they had opened, one parking lot was already full they said but it’s a big park so we didn’t notice it too much to begin with.

When we had parked, we walked to the museum building. They had some art, photographs and a gift shop inside but nothing special. And then our hike around the park began. There are sculptures far apart from each other so you kinda have to decide if you want to really see it or continue more on a “path”. On their website they say that you should dedicate about two hours to see it properly, and we spent about that time there and I think we got to see a good portion of the art.

After about half of our walk around the park, it had started to fill up with people. Large groups of people had set up picnic, some biked around, some took the little tram, lots of families brought their babies in strollers and so on. Even if it’s a big park, it somehow eventually felt crowded. I’m so happy we came early. When we drove out from the park, there was a long line all the way out on the highway to get in. Those people probably had to wait at least an hour, maybe even two to get in. It’s not worth that.

It was a cute park and I’m glad we went there. It was an absolute perfect day too. A little cold in the morning and then sunny and super sweaty weather. Neither J or I really enjoy that kind of art though. Art pieces that you can create in kinder garden isn’t really my cup of tea, but others enjoy it and I guess since they are in that huge scale it can be kinda cool. Storm King park is bigger than just the art center and we would love to go there to explore and then take Thor with us (you can’t bring your dog to the art center). The art center is closed during the winter, but you can visit the actual park all year around. And it’s a beautiful drive by Hudson River.
