Loudest Alarm Clock Ever

We woke up from the loudest fire alarm today. We quickly put warm clothes on. I grabbed Thor’s travel bag (cause I have read somewhere that you should grab your pets bag in these situations, J thought I was stupid). I went to get my two external hard drives that usually is in our fire safe but I have been using them, and it was quick and easy to grab and throw them in T’s bag (if we were in real danger I would not grab the bag or even a jacket, I would just take Thor and walk out of course). While I was getting ready to save us, Jim was trying to check if it was just our alarm that was on and wanted to turn it off, hahah. No, hun, it was the whole building and we need to get out.
Down the stairs we all went in our pj’s with our dogs in our arms. We came out on the street and soon three firetrucks came (not like NYC when 12-15 trucks come for any small or big situation). We walked around the building across from ours to get T distracted to do his business and back by the entrance, we could all go inside again. No idea what the reason for this alarm was, but who cares, we are all safe and that’s what matters.

Now we know that the alarms here works, haha, that’s one positive thing about this morning:)

Jim and Thor is asleep now. I just made myself some coffee. The alarm went off at 6am and I thought that I could stay up now and maybe take a nap if I need it later today.

Today’s sunrise. Beautiful orange colors waking us up every morning

Hello Tuesday

I love my new music player that Jim got me for Christmas. Small and weighs nothing

Thor was not feeling too awesome today:( He didn’t eat his breakfast, only wanted to sleep and when I took him outside he did a lot of stretches which he does when he has tummy pain. I was ready to go to the gym but instead I did an hour pilates at home next to my sleeping pup. My muscles weren’t really tired after that, but my body was completely dead. Pretty good hour I’d say:) Thor finally ate his breakfast around 2pm and he started to play with toys a couple of hours later, so he seems ok now.

Our watershoes arrived today. Jim’s fit perfectly, but mine is way too big. I even ordered a size smaller. But I think they might have sent the wrong size. It says on the package sticker “39 40”, and if that’s the size (which they look like), then that would be a 9. I’m 35 and we ordered a 4.5-5 shoe. So, now I’ve been online trying to find a store here that has watershoes, but if a store has it, then they are too big. Might have to try again and order online even if I don’t want to.
I also can’t seem to find normal looking sneakers (need for every day use and for hiking in Hawaii). When it comes to sneakers I’m very picky, but even if I lower my standards or requests, they still look retarded.  My last ones got Thor’s poop on them and they were too broken to be worth putting in the washer, so I need new ones. And I don’t have winter boots either and with all this snow and cold weather I probably need it. My last pair was in 2011 when I first came to NYC and the salt on the streets here broke them. I. Don’t. Like. Winter. So. I. Don’t. Want. Boots. I have some shopping to do, and so far, it’s been frustrating.

But to something more fun. A few minutes ago, we tried our new camera in it’s case under water. We should probably have done that when we got the camera a month ago, but whatever. It seems to work. And to my surprise, there is sound too. I thought this camera couldn’t record sound when in it’s case, or that’s what Jim told me. Very nice, I’m excited to use it!

Breathe and release

from a workout this weekend

Good Evening! My husband is watching some football game so I’m hanging out on my computer tonight, cause I really don’t care about college football:)

This morning, I took my first yoga class of the year. A lovely class with Megan. I really like her, it’s clear that she knows what she is talking about. We did a little bit of everything today, a lot of different muscles working which was nice. She put focus for this class on how our body respond to fear or anxiety or similar things that can creep up on you especially around the winter months when motivation might fail you. When we feel stressed or anxious we tend to put that in our bodies. Doesn’t matter if it’s big life decision kinda of fear or if it’s something small like fear for not standing in a certain yoga pose correctly, our body respond. First thing that happens in my body when I start thinking a lot or feel stressed or something, is to clench my jaw, especially now when it’s freezing outside. So during the whole class today I put a lot of focus on my jaw and face muscles. Other people might have felt that their hips were tight, they got lower back pain or their shoulders went up to their ears. It’s always good to be reminded to release and relax. And breathe it out.

Very nice to go back into yoga. This week I will try to mix both yoga classes and workouts at the gym. Besides hiking, I can’t imagine we’ll work out much during our vacation, so it’s nice to be a little active now before:)

Hello and happy weekend! How are you guys?
We met with the dog sitter around lunch time today. She seems very sweet and I’m sure Thor will be in good hands when we go on vacation. That’s one more thing we can cross off our list of things to do before Hawaii. We bought a new camera for under water shots, we got new snorkeling gear, we ordered water shoes just the other day and we filled out our TSA yesterday. Dog sitter was kinda the last thing to think about.

After that, we drove to New Canaan. I was looking for new sneaker with no luck and then we had an amazing lunch. I made a lot of requests and basically created my own dish. Three poached eggs, potato, greens and bacon with a side of toast. It was awesome. We got pretty tired after all that food, so Jim (and Thor) is napping right now. I just made myself a latte instead on our espresso machine. I still haven’t got a hang on it. It’s a little different from when I worked as a barista. It looks and tastes as a latte, but I can’t make the art (you know, a heart or a leaf or something). Maybe it’s because I use almond milk or maybe I need a slightly smaller steamer. Soy milk was always harder when I worked in cafe’s. I’ll figure it out eventually:)
Have a beautiful weekend!

Rockefeller during Christmas

I still haven’t got to see the Disney Castle on Saks Fifth Avenue light up, we haven’t stayed until it got dark. It’s still pretty though. Snow White and the seven dwarfs is celebrating 80 years so Saks made a tribute for that. Very cute!
The last time Jim and I went to Rockefeller Center, it was so packed with people you could barely walk and parts of the center was blocked off. This time we could actually walk around. Still a lot of people but not nearly as crowded as last time. It’s very pretty there and if you happen to be in NYC during Christmas you should definitely go there. But go early in the morning or really really late at night and in the middle of the week, preferably not right around Christmas 🙂
