Waiting for candy

Good morning! I am sore today. Not sure if it’s from the yoga class that I took last night or if its from vacuuming the apartment, haha. Or maybe it’s from something completely different that I’ve done. Don’t know. But my arms, neck and upper back is pretty sore.

So, yesterday morning I skipped the yoga class I planned on taking because I was going to skype with my sister. I really have the most amazing sister. She drove to the candy store that I like after she finished work and had me on skype inside the store. Hahaha. She didn’t have any headphones so she had to talk to me, show me all the different candy and wait for me to say yes or no when everybody else could hear it. I’ve never been shopping for candy over the phone before, a phone on the other side of the ocean:) A very good reason to skip yoga, right? 😛 (Swedish candy is very important)

Then, I skype’d one last time with my mom (my parents bags are full of thing for me…mostly tasty treats…so she needed to just do a last check with me). After that I dusted all surfaces and vacuumed the whole first floor of the apartment. Maybe doesn’t sound like much, but I needed to use two different vacuums and it was pretty dusty here. Our home is pretty neat but with me and Thor shedding, it needs to be cleaned more often:)

I was exhausted after that and I tried to come up with a bunch of different excuses to not go to an evening class. But then I got an email from the owner (and the teacher for that class) of the studio and I decided in the very last minute to change clothes and run over there to answer her in person ((I have a workshop coming up and I needed to approve the add for it)). Dragging myself to class even if I was tired was a great decision. It was a mixed class which means a little bit more flow and more challenging. I was suddenly in a very good mood and I walked out with lots of energy. My husband even told me to relax after we came home from the grocery store after the class.

Today I have to do laundry, vacuum the upstairs and prepare the guest room for my parents. I am sooo excited to have my parents here for a few days (or maybe I’m excited about all the Swedish candy haha). To be able to show my family new places or go for new adventures is really rewarding to me. I hope we can find some interesting things to do when they are here.

Four days in pictures

Good morning! How was your weekend? Below is some pictures from my last four days.

I’ve taken “Liz” (yes, I named my bicycle Liz) for a ride. There is almost only one-way streets here with at least three lanes, so it’s not easy to bike anywhere. So I try to bike places with less traffic.

On Thursday, we skipped the concert and went to a Mexican restaurant instead. Mmm, guacamole.

It’s been a year since I got that phone call. When I woke up that day, July 28, and saw a missed call from Sweden, I knew what it was about and my heart was pounding hard until I called back and heard my dads voice. When we hung up, I screamed right out and probably scared the crap out of my pup who was sleeping next to me. I knew for a few years that the phone call could come any day, but even if you’re “prepared”, it still sucks and it still hurts. I miss my grandma.

Thor got a haircut from Spa Dogz (above is before and after). We asked for an inch to cut this time, but we could probably have gone a little shorter. But, he looks awesome and he’s a little cooler at least in this heat.

And what else did we do this weekend? Watched a documentary. Hung out on our terrace. Played pool with some guys on the rooftop. Had brunch at Tigin. We did yoga at home on the terrace. Helped a neighbor with computer stuff. Grilled some food. And we ended the weekend with the new episode of Game of Thrones.

I hope you all will have a wonderful week!

One colder day this summer

The cutest face to wake up to in the morning

Good morning! I woke up at 5am today but I forced myself to stay in bed til 6. I took my dog out, made coffee and then I’ve basically been sitting here by my computer since.

I took a yoga class in the morning yesterday. It was a teacher that I haven’t taken class for before. You could tell that she has many years of experience in teaching yoga and that she knew a thing or two. But there were a few things I questioned in my head though and I wanted to correct her body a few times when she demonstrated. That’s how it is in a teachers brain on class I guess, I can never relax, haha.

Last night, we went to the meditation get-together. We got to pick tarot cards again. Jim and I picked the same card. Haha, how is that possible? They were shuffled in between. I’m sure we didn’t ask the universe the same question but somehow we got the same answer to it. “Believe”. She read the description for the card twice and I heard it completely differently when she read it for me than when she read for Jim. Interesting.
We did a meditation together. Just simple breathing. I kept feeling that my frown lines came back on the exhales so the whole time my focus was on that, I couldn’t really relax. But whatever. That’s part of the meditation process too.

I planned on taking a yoga class now in the morning, but I’ve been busy so I forgot about time. Oh well, maybe I can go tonight. I hope you’ll have a wonderful day!

Our 4th of July

I hope you all had an awesome celebration yesterday. We had a pretty relaxed Fourth of July. Nothing really exciting happening in the morning and in the afternoon we went to the grocery store, grilled burgers at home, I baked an apple pie and we hung out on our terrace. Around 9pm we went to the rooftop of our building that is facing the other side than our apartment. All fireworks were kinda further away so we decided to go back to our terrace instead. On Friday and Saturday there was a lot of fireworks that we had a perfect view over (I read online later that those were the big 4th of July fireworks for the city). There was a few fireworks yesterday but nothing major, but it didn’t bother us since we had watched it all on both Fri and Sat. It was just nice to enjoy our terrace. Thor was sleeping in my lap and J was dj’ing on his phone.

Having an outdoor space really is amazing. We have lived in NYC for over 6 years and even if we could go up on the rooftop or sit in the park to enjoy the outside, it’s not the same. Our terrace here is private (which is the only one in the building I think that is) which is super nice. It’s not as cozy and decorated as I wish it to be yet. But at night, all you need is a candle and its cozier already:)

Tubing

Happy 4th of July!

Yesterday, after my husband and Thor came home from work, we were spontaneously invited to join my husbands boss on his boat. We drove down to Larchmont, NY, where they live and together we went to the boat. A nice speedboat that we drove pretty quickly out in the ocean. On the way out we could see the NYC skyline a bit away, always nice to see the city:) Their daughter was excited to go tubing. She looked so happy and wanted to go faster and faster. When she was done it was my turn. I have never done this before but I like to try new things. I figured out pretty quickly that you can steer with your legs. It was so much fun! Then Jim went before we went back to land where their older daughter was waiting.

The Larchmont Yacht Club, founded in 1880, has a huge pool with several different sections. One thing I guess that they are known for is that the pool water is a mix of saltwater and chlorine and they have a cute beach there, all separated by a wall to the actual ocean. They are rebuilding it to a normal pool for next year, so it was cool that we got to visit this now. We played in the water for a bit. The men and the daughters were trying to do tricks off the diving board. After a quick freshening up, we all went for a dinner at the outdoor seating restaurant at the club. Very cute. I ordered a croissant lobster roll that was amazing.

We had a fun afternoon. So nice of Mike to invite us out there.  A very fun summer activity.
