My old stuff

I am back in Stamford since around midnight on Friday. I thought I would have had a lot of time to blog when I was in Sweden, but even if I wasn’t running around places, I was still so busy that I barely even started my computer. My plan was to update and follow up on the “meditation challenge”, but I really didn’t have time. I hope you still continued to take a moment to breath and relax your mind during this time though. Let me know in the comments how it’s going. I am really curious.

So, what did I do in Sweden? Ever since I moved out of the apartment I shared with my ex in Stockholm and then moved to NYC, I have been feeling really bad about that I had to store all my boxes of crap in my parents house. So every time I come to Sweden, I go through them, hopefully get rid of stuff and bring some things so that there will be fewer boxes. The fact that my boxes is just making a mess in my parents home has been driving me nuts, so this time I also went out on the attic and went through all my boxes from when I was a kid (ya, I had a lot of boxes of books, things from school and toys as well). A big project that took all week when my family was at work during the day.

For some reason, my family is experts in saving stuff. For what reason? In a way I kinda wanted to just throw everything out and never look back, but I would probably regret that.
On my last day in Sweden, there was one giant bag of paper to throw away, one bag of clothes to get rid of, roughly two boxes of toys and things to donate, five empty boxes and a few things in my suitcase to bring back. And there are still plenty of boxes left. But some things I really do not want to get rid of. At least not this time. My folders of notes etc. from my time at the university is actually useful and important (I went through all that once before as well and left is only things that matters). There is one box of books that will eventually end up in my home in America. Boxes that ended up on the attic is full of fun things I’ve created or other fun stuff that I would love to have in my future house and toys of good quality for my future kid (if I have one).

I feel bad for having my shit in their house, but also, it’s been hard to move across the world. If I just moved from one place to another in Sweden, I would have had all my crap with me, but now I have to squeeze it all in my suitcase when I travel back. And you never know if some of the things will even go through security. This time they opened my bag and stole one of the gingerbread cookie cutters (a set of three that I brought back now, the very last things I grabbed from my grandmas house last time I was in Sweden for her funeral). I don’t really care about the cookie cutter, I can buy a new one, but it’s part of one memory I have with my grandma. It doesn’t really matter, but it’s annoying. My bags get searched almost every time I travel between USA and Sweden.

I’m curious, do you have boxes of old stuff? If you do, do you have it in your own home or do you happen to store it in your parents home?

My two favorite dolls when I was a kid
My very first camera, hahaha!
(I got my first real camera on my 6th birthday, so I must
have made this one when I was like 5 years old or something)

I’m in Sweden

…on a surprise visit. The only one that new about this was my dad:) My friend, who is from the same town as myself, had booked her ticket back from NYC on Friday and since there has been cheaper flights, I booked myself on the same flight. We arrived around noon in Copenhagen yesterday (Saturday) and after a train ride to Sweden, my dad picked us up in Falkenberg, we dropped Jeanette off at home and went to buy pizza. When I came in behind my dad, carrying pizza, I saw a confused and shocked mother. Hahaha, I love surprises! We are on our way to my grandma’s right now when I write this (I will post it slightly later to not ruin the surprise). She, my aunt and her husband, my sister and her boyfriend who is going to my grandma’s as well has no idea that I’m coming. This will be very fun:) The roads has during this morning got covered by snow and it takes a bit longer to get there. I was so happy to miss all the snow in Stamford, but now it’s here too. Can’t escape winter weather i guess.

Our beautiful Christmas tree

I am so so so happy with our Christmas tree ♥

The fluffier tree the better, and that what we have been looking for when we went artificial tree hunting. This one that we bought at Home Depot is fuller, not too tall (it’s 6 feet), has two different types of branches and the right shape. Very pleased!

We have ornaments in silver, glitter, a few baby blue ones and a glitter garland. So classy and cute. We did a good job. We placed it behind the couch by the window because that feels like the best placement. I’m happy with that, but in way it’s too pretty to not be placed like in the middle of the living room or something, haha.

Now we have real Christmas feeling in here. I’m excited for Christmas!

The photos doesn’t do the tree any justice. I wish you could see it in person:)

Fried phone

Right after I had updated the blog yesterday, when I was having a relaxed morning, enjoying my coffee on the couch, my phone decided to go dark in the middle of whatever I was doing on it. Couldn’t turn it back on and the phone was really hot. In the afternoon, we went to the mall and had some phone store take a look at it. It wasn’t the battery, it wasn’t the screen, it wasn’t water damaged or damaged from mistreating it (I take good care of things I own). They told me that it seemed like the phone was fried, overheated. This means that everything on my phone is lost. I could pay a bunch of money to a company and try to get all my data, but I think I have to just accept that my stuff is lost. I probably have 80% or so saved, but I know there is stuff I haven’t backed up and now it’s forever lost. And if things like phone numbers and other stuff isn’t saved on my google account, then I can’t get that info either since my phone won’t start.

If the fried phone and lost things wasn’t enough yesterday, I woke up with a big cold sore on the tip of my nose (I look like Rudolf) and the zipper on my jacket broke. But, our Christmas tree that we put up yesterday is the most beautiful tree I’ve ever seen, so that’s at least one positive thing from yesterday:)

So, I’m searching online today for what phone to buy tonight. Right now I don’t have a phone at all. My old phone doesn’t have a sim card (it’s like built in or something… ya, strange), so I can’t use that one til I find a new one I like. So I have to just pick a phone and be stuck with that one for a few years.

R.I.P my Samsung
(I have never broken a phone, it looks like this now after the guys opened it)

Relaxed Sunday

After breakfast this morning, my hubby and I walked to Target to buy some ornaments and stuff for the tree. Back home, we put up the new lights on the terrace we had just bought. Looks pretty nice out there now when it’s dark. Put up a new light in my “Funny Room” too and changed some things in there. In the afternoon, J had football on in the background and I was knitting my scarf. Ya, that’s right, I knit:)
I’m hanging out upstairs doing stuff on my laptop now and J is trying to find a movie to watch by himself. A very relaxed and easy Sunday. I will try to go to bed early tonight so that I can get up early tomorrow morning.
