Roadtrip to South Carolina

January 29, 2021

I took this photo of Thor last night. My beautiful boy

Hello from the bungalow! We are having a great time here! Jim is working today (again), he has some phone call now at 10:30am and it’s one of those that will probably take a few hours, so I’m entertaining myself here. Just came back from getting us coffees at the cafe a few minutes from here. So, I thought I would take today to update more here:) It’s also pretty cold outside, only 45°F outside, so staying in doesn’t sound too bad:)

So the last thing I updated about was the roadtrip down to Virginia Beach. The roadtrip continued the next day. We checked out from the hotel right before 8am. Thor freaked out for about 15 minutes, then he wanted to go down to his “house” (his carrier) and then he slept for about three hours! At that time we all had to make a quick potty break, somewhere in North Carolina. And then back on the road and T slept for another couple of hours. He must have been really tired from the day before. We stopped again to get something to eat. T went back to sleep after that until we got closer to the island. We arrived at the house in South Carolina around 3:45pm. Wow, this area is cute!
First thing, I wiped the whole house with disinfect wipes, then sprayed with disinfect room spray on all the furniture, put all extra pillows on the guest bed and put a purple sheet that I brought over the couch. Since I didn’t know how the couch would be like I figured it was smart to bring something to cover it with, and I’m glad I did. The couch looks clean-ish, but for my piece of mind (my germophobic mind) the sheet helps. I hate pillows, covers and stuff at hotels too, I think it’s nasty, so I always throw it all on the floor when we go somewhere.

After wiping and wiping the house and Jim carrying all our stuff inside from the car, I changed into different clothes and we went for a walk in the neighborhood.
Before our trip I turned to google to find articles and pictures, I search on pinterest and youtube to see how it looked like here and I found lots of crappy pictures of beaches and bushes, kinda. But the only pictures of for example palm trees I found was by the resorts here and even that didn’t look that nice, but I thought, oh well, at least the pictures of the house and the view of the water we’ll have will be nice and the reason for the trip is to relax and enjoy each others company. When we entered this island we both were kinda in shock how pretty it is here. And palm trees everywhere!! The little community that we are staying in and especially the street leading to the house is absolutely gorgeous! So peaceful and so beautiful. And the bungalow is just as nice as the pictures showed. I am so happy I randomly found this place and that hubby said ok, we could not have picked anything better. It’s private, cute, quiet, roomy, clean with a stunning view. We have even seen dolphins from looking out the windows here!

So, we went for a walk. The first person we walk by, a runner, was speaking Swedish to someone in her headphones. Of course there are Swedish people here, they are everywhere, even during a pandemic (ok, I shouldn’t say anything, I am swedish too hahah). We walked over to the little shopping area by a lighthouse. We walked around, found an ice cream shop and I got myself a mint chocolate ice cream cone (I normally don’t like ice cream that much but I have been eating a lot more of it during this pregnancy and I love mint and chocolate anything these days). We walked back to the house and just relaxed on the couch all night.

(btw, I am on purpose not telling where we are until after our trip)

Roadtrip to Virginia Beach

January 27, 2021

Day 4 on our babymoon. I’m gonna try to catch up here, but I’m also not gonna spend my whole vacation on the laptop;)

We left right before 9am on Sunday. Thor was like I predicted freaking out in the car. After about an hour of driving (so basically just passing Manhattan and Newark airport), we stopped for a potty break. After this, Thor seemed to have understood that we were not gonna leave him somewhere, so he calmed down a bit. You could tell that he was tired but I’m sure the noise from the car and all the bumps on the road was a bit scary at first. He tried to nap but kept waking up. He had a few freak-out moments here and there but it was way waaaaayy better than I had expected! I was so proud of him!

We drove in 6 different states, 3 of which I’ve never been to before (depends on if you consider Washington DC to be in state or not, I guess). Connecticut – New York – New Jersey – Delaware – Maryland – Virginia.
We arrived around 4:30 pm. We checked in, I disinfected all the surfaces, T was freaking out, so quickly we went outside for a walk on the beach. It took about 4 seconds before someones face was covered in sand so J had to pick him up (dogs can get really sick from eating sand). It was windy and cold so we decided to find a place that we could eat at or order take out. Murphys Tavern was packed with people except in the extra outdoor tent (they had two) where there were no one, so we sat down and ordered. Just some simple bites that we could eat fairly quickly. Then back out for a cold beach walk.
Back at the hotel we watched football and fell asleep early, we had another long day ahead of us after all.

We made it to South Carolina

January 26, 2021

We are in South Carolina on a little island. It is sooo cute here. Yesterday when we arrived it was 21°c degrees here and it will be the same all day today. We will have a thunderstorm after 4pm and for the rest of the trip it looks like the temperatures will be down to like 16°c or lower, so we are gonna enjoy today as much as we possibly can.
Jim is working this morning so that’s why I’m on the laptop now. He doesn’t have to work for the full vacation, but today and Monday next week he does and then just check in every once in awhile.

Since today is the only warmer day we are going to try to do my “photoshoots” today. So I kinda have to start to get ready. I’ll update you more later tonight, ok. Have a wonderful day!

I did yoga during sunrise this morning. After two days of sitting in the car I needed to move my body
We walked over to this cute cafe to get coffee this morning

on our way for relaxing

Kauai 2018

Post written two days ago > We are on our way for adventures. When this post goes live we should be on our way from Virginia where we would have stayed one night. We decided to book a hotel only a week ago because I am after all pregnant and we are bringing Mister Buttface and the drive down south is looong.

I am so excited for this trip. Our plans are to relax, relax and more relax. We are renting a house and we are bringing tons of food so that we don’t have to go to the grocery store more than hopefully once (for fresh produce) and not go out to eat. I am also planning on taking some pregnancy pictures, hoping find a palm tree somewhere to pose with;)
Hahah, we have soooo much stuff with us, like ridiculous amount of stuff. Normally hubby and I only travel with like a backpack each as hand luggage, or if we go on a longer trip like this one we might bring one suitcase to share. But now we have one suitcase, one backpack, two boxes of food, one bag of cleaning supplies (cause you know, covid), one bag to bring to the hotel (and leave basically the rest in the car overnight), two laptops, one bag of camera gear, one bag of books,  my ginormous pregnancy pillow in it’s bag, a snack bag, one bag of workout stuff and more. You’d think we are going to camp there for a month or two hahah.

This will be Thor’s first real trip. The only trip he’s been on with us is when we went glamping for a night in Hobart NY in August 2018. That was a four hour drive of him freaking out for a big portion of the trip. The drive to Virginia is twice that long. I hope we survived (I’ll let you know in the next post hahah). But I think this will be good for him.

Ok, I’ll check in once we are at the house where we have wifi. Ciao!

Throwback to our camping trip:

Sunday Morning Beach Walk

January 17, 2021

About an hour after I uploaded the last post, my doctor sent me a message that I do not have gestational diabetes, yay! My baseline, first, third and forth blood tests showed way below the minimum level, the second test showed closer but still below, so I definitely don’t have diabetes. The 1 hour tests doesn’t seem too accurate (hence why they make you do the 3 hour one sometimes), it’s can kinda just be bad luck. I didn’t have to do anything special before the 1 hour test, I called the morning of to double check and they just said to not eat an hour before my appointment. But, I read somewhere on google that if you would eat for example cereal in the morning before your test it can interfere. I don’t eat cereal very often but for some reason I did the day of my test, so who knows if that did something.
Well, it is definitely great news. It would suck to have to check your blood sugar 4 times a day. But plenty of women get this diagnose and unless you’re really at a high risk to maybe even have diabetes after pregnancy, you’ll be fine, just have to watch what you eat more.

Yesterday we didn’t do anything special. I have like four thousand things on my to-do list before our trip so I spent most of the day at my desk. We went for a longer walk in the afternoon and we watched a tv-show at night, but that’s it.
This morning we drove to Cove Island here in Stamford around 8am. Nobody there really that early on a cold Sunday morning which was nice. Thor tried to eat all the sand again which we tried to train him out of. We are going down south in a week and he can not eat all the sand there, that would not end well. Not sure why he does it either, he’s weird. But we had a nice walk, very refreshing. The good thing about wearing a mask is that it covers your face when the wind gets really cold:)

I have to clean the apartment today, also gonna cook us a vegetarian Mexican lunch and then try to check off a few more things from the to-dos. We’ll see if I have time for anything else. Jim is off work tomorrow (MLK day) so I have plenty of time to ask him to do stuff for me hahah (mostly just to carry stuff around since I try to not lift things these days or to grab things up high in cabinets).

Have a wonderful weekend!

Very nice in the sun but the wind was freezing
Thor ordered us coffees on the way home 😀
