Labor Day weekend, Darien Diner, free stuff & nice weather

Good morning! How was your Labor Day weekend? We had a pretty relaxed one.

Like I mentioned, Jim worked on my blog most of Saturday. He took a break for a few hours and we drove to Walmart in Norwalk and after that we stopped by The Darien Diner. Super cute inside. Old American stuff. The food was great too! I can really recommend this place.

On Sunday, we had an early dinner at a pizza bar and then went to Bed Bath & Beyond. We were looking for a small pitcher to steam milk in on our new espresso machine, but they didn’t really have any. We talked to a sales person in there and she ended up giving me a pitcher from a displayed espresso machine for free. “I won’t get in trouble walking out with this though?” I asked and she answered “No, just hide it. People steal display stuff all the time, and I say it’s ok”. Aum, what? I asked her if she would be in trouble then, but nope, she just told me to pay for the other stuff I had and hide the pitcher when I walked out. Weird, but thank you sales lady:)

Yesterday, Labor Day, we didn’t do much either. It was lovely weather, really warm again, so we enjoyed our day on the terrace. J had a little art project, I was reading and Thor was sleeping in his bed on a chair between us. In the evening, I cooked us a nice salmon and potato dinner and then we watched Shameless and went to bed early. A very “married-couple” kinda weekend, haha.

The weekend of lots of walking

Hello! Like I told you, we have been busy being relaxed:) It’s nice to have family here. Now when we have so much extra space and a guest bed (a fold out couch, not the most comfortable one but it looks nice hehe) we can have people visiting us more. Before when we lived on Manhattan, people had to spend lots of money on hotels so we are happy that family can come and stay here. We get more time with each other this way too:)

We went to the Mianus River Park and walked without looking at the map what trails to follow. Perfect day for hiking for Thor since it wasn’t too hot for him. We also went to the Half Full Brewery one day for the “tour” (not much of a tour, it’s just one room with tanks and a guy drinking a beer showing it). We were gonna watch the fight, but the bars who had it had crazy entrance fees, so we ended up at home and J was actually the only one staying up to watch it haha.
One day we drove to the Cove Island Park. Beautiful day. That made us hungry so we had brunch at Tigin to watch the Bears game. At night we had champagne and popcorn with the last episode of Game of Thrones. Thor was all dressed up in a dragon sweater, too cute!
For Jims birthday we took a taxi to Rowayton to eat at the seafood restaurant. Their food is amazing and it’s a cute place overlooking the boats. Appetizers, main dish and dessert, it’s all awesome.
A very nice long weekend. I’m very proud of Thor who can walk so much. Several miles per day, impressive for such small little fluffball.

‘Half Full’ Brewery

On Friday night, after Jim came home from work, we took an uber to the Half Full Brewery. It’s only a few minutes away and uber here is super cheap. Unfortunately they don’t have brewery tours on weekdays so we will have to go back a different time. But we got to try all their beers there. We bought a few full size glasses and then a few samples (I didn’t actually like any of the samples, J chose weird peach and pee smelling beer samples).

Outside the brewery there was a truck selling food from Puerto Rico. Omg, this was awesome! We bought a rice and pork dish with plantain, a mixed meat sandwich and beef empanadas and brought it in to the brewery to enjoy with all the beer we tried.

It’s a pretty small brewery but it’s fun to visit no matter the size. I like their IPA’s but I’m not so impressed by the other beers they have. Would be fun to see the actual brewery though. It will be another weekend adventure:)

Indoor Skydiving

My birthday was six weeks ago. I told you then that my husband took me on a surprise car trip to iFly Indoor Skydiving in Westchester, NY. Let me tell you, this was super fun!

We were in the second group of the day so we got to see how it works before it was our turn. It’s very simple. Basically you just have to keep your legs and arms out and not look down. It’s very loud from the wind inside the tube so the instructors have a few hand signals for you, like if you need to relax, keep your head up, bend or straighten your legs. Jim was the first one out there. He was awesome right away. And then my turn. Iiiihh!! So much fun! I felt that she let go of me a few times. It helped to understand that activating your center really works, I have dance to thank for that. We had grandparents with their little grandson going in after us. The kid, who was 5, did so well.

In the basic package you get to go in twice, two minutes each time, and you get to learn to just basically stay in place and figure out how to do it. As a birthday gift from iFly, I got to go up higher the second time, and Jim paid for doing the same thing. The instructor holds on to the side of you, releases her legs from the base and you both go up and down in this tube. The grandmother didn’t wanna fly a second time and the kid first said no but the instructor convinced him that it’s fun to jump on the base of the tube and when they were in there he eventually said he wanted to fly again. Too cute. Since there was a bit more time left for our group, she asked if anyone wanted to go again. I stood up right away. Of course I wanted to go again! Flying is fun!

To finish our group, our instructor got to show off in the tube. It didn’t seem that hard to be honest. I think both Jim and I could figure out how to do tricks in no time (but the cost for the time in the tube is ridiculous).

This was so worth it! Really fun! I think our next challenge is the actual skydiving:)
