Why did we visit Charleston?

We were in Charleston, South Carolina, January 4-6. This trip was just like our trip to Tampa in April last year = an exploration to see if we want to live there in the future. We don’t want to just decide to move somewhere without checking it out first. I loved the beaches in Tampa, but the city did nothing for me. Charleston was super cute and I liked it a lot and I have had a feeling about SC for several years, even if I had never visited. I tried to listen to if my guts would tell me something during this trip, yes or no to live there, but I didn’t get anything. There’s a chance that I might have been listening too hard so that I didn’t hear anything at all.
But we both liked it. Very cute city, beaches were great and driving in a few different areas was nice. But it’s very flat down there. We both like hiking and mountains. Charleston isn’t the place for that, hahah. We’ll see.

I know, I’m a bit slow these days to get posts up here, I have a lot of other things to do and I guess the blog hasn’t been the priority. Sorry about that. But I’m about finished with the video from Charleston. I have a few details to add or change but it should be up soon.

Our Christmas

I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas. I never really got the real Christmas feeling, but we had two wonderful days.

On Christmas Eve I was busy busy. Jim was at work and I ran around at home. Laundry, some cleaning, working out and a few other things. J came home around 2pm already which was nice cause he could join me when we skyped with my family. I had a few minutes after that to make a beets salad. We always had a beets-herring salad on the table when I grew up that my grandma made, but I’m fine just making a normal beets salad, I make the same one every year. At 3pm, we started youtube on TV and searched for the Disney Christmas shows that we have in Sweden every year. Couldn’t find exactly everything, just like previous years, but we found the important ones. This Disney hour is perfect for napping which we did:)
And then we started cooking. I made a “Janssons Frestelse” without onion and anchovy, so basically potato with cream, haha. I added a bit of cheese on top to not make it so boring. J heated up a ham with a mustard sauce that turned out really juicy and salty. With this we had biscuits. lettuce and the beets salad. It all turned out perfect, very pleased.
At night we watched Home Alone 2. We watched the first one on Saturday. It’s been so long since I last saw them. They are too funny.

GeorgeThor’s Christmas gift for his daddy Jim gave me a Bag of Unicorn Farts in my stocking

On Christmas Day, I got up early to go feed the neighbors cat (we are watching him for a week). All morning we just snuggled on the couch with a fake “fireplace” on the tv. Listening to the crackles while I did stuff on my laptop and J took a morning nap. Then I baked Swedish chocolate balls. They turned out amazing. J went to the gym and I jumped in the shower. We left Thor and quickly checked on the cat right before 2pm. Took us about half an hour to get to Mikes house (Jim’s boss). Everyone else were running late so we were the first ones there. We were starving but had to wait another two hours til everyone came and food was ready. There were some veggies and crackers out though so it was ok:)
We had a great time. So nice of them to invite us. Feels a little weird maybe to be there with their relatives, but we feel very welcome.
We left around 6. We didn’t wanna leave Thor alone for too long and we had to go feed the cat later too. We finished our night with a movie on HBO. Ready Player One, a Spielberg movie about virtual reality. Kinda interesting but oh so cheesy love crap here and there.

We had a wonderful Christmas. It’s nice to spend so much time with my husband. He worked from home yesterday and will be home tomorrow as well, yay:)

Beach day in December

We woke up to a beautiful day and decided to go to Tod’s Point in Old Greenwich. We walked right out to the beach. The water was completely still. You could hear the clucking sound of the water which is probably my absolute favorite sound of all. There were lots of people there, but most of them hung out with there dogs on the beach or in the park area right by it. We went for a walk around the point and we had times when we were alone and we could just listen to the birds in the trees.
Wow, I sound so old when I talk about how much I love the nature, but I think nature and the wildlife is important to put our focus on in our lives. Without it we wouldn’t be here, we need it. Electronics, robots, buildings, material things, it can all seem nice, but if we loose the nature and our animals, all the other things won’t matter, we would have to come up with other ways to survive. Kids movies like Wall-E and Lorax is made up stories but they could become true. So, appreciating the nature is only good for us.
Anyway. Tomorrow is Christmas Eve. I have no Christmas feeling at all. I did when we put up the tree and decorated the apartment but that was three weeks ago. Hopefully gonna get more feel for it when we watch Donald Duck at 3pm tomorrow:)

New York City across the water

Relaxing weekend just us two

Stamford is very cute during the winter. The whole city is lit up. This street, Bedford, is the cutest.

Hello! Hope you had an awesome weekend.

We went to Lucky’s for burgers on Friday and then we watched an old American college movie. Kinda stupid for my taste though.
On Saturday we woke up early as usual and then we walked over to the Athletic Club. Jim went swimming and I was at the gym doing cardio and used the weight machines. My inner thighs are on fire now, haha. After we had showered we wanted to take Thor for a walk to get coffee and bagels, but it was suddenly raining outside, so we took the car to a donut delight instead. Thor freaked out as always.
Jim had a phone call waiting around noon so I took Thor out and spent some time playing with him, and when the call was over we drove to Norwalk. We went to Home Depot to check floors, hahaha. Yup, we drove all the way there to look at wood floors, fake floors, carpets, tiles etc. Some time in the future (God knows when..) we will buy or build a house and we thought it could be a good idea to have some kind of sense on what’s out there and what it costs. Now we just need to remember all that for when the day comes:)

After our adventure in the store, we were both starving so we drove a block north to a Mexican place that J had got recommended. Very happy with my order for two reasons: A) it was so yummy and spicy B) I first wanted to order the burrito but decided in the last second to order a rice and bean bowl which turned out to be a great decision cause the table next to us did order the burrito and it was humongous!! Really, I have never seen a burrito that big, it was the size of a large loaf of bread, I would have never been able to eat that. Now we know and next time we go there we can bring some people and share that thing:)
In the afternoon, we walked over to Mill River Park. They have put up an ice rink there now and the Half Full Brewery has put up a big tent next to it. Very cute inside actually. We ordered a drink each but decided to go after that cause there were no seats. We walked over to Buffalo Wild Wings. We had fried cheese and drinks. Back at home we had some family playtime with Thor, then I watched the new Netflix movie “Dumplin”. Very cute movie (but very predictable) and awesome music (Dolly Parton!!!).
It was raining all of Sunday. We had breakfast at a diner. Took Thor with us to Pet Smart to buy a Christmas gift for T and for our neighbor. Back home, I played God of War I until I was so tired that I went to the bedroom for a long nap. I only slept like 4.5 hours during the night and when I don’t get enough sleep I don’t really function. Jim was watching football with Thor. I woke up to pizza delivery, yum! After lots of football and some Hawaii Life on hgtv, it was time to end this weekend.

We don’t always have the most exciting weekends, but to us it’s perfect. I think we have a good mix of fun activities and relaxed times when we can just focus on each other. Every since we first started to see each other 7.5 years ago, we have tried to have the weekends to just ourselves. Sometimes we end up spending time with friends, or back then I would work with the company or have rehearsals with choreographers on weekends, but mostly we take these days to ourselves. I love spending time with my husband, no matter what we do:)
