Weekend park day

I know, it’s been over a week since I last posted anything here. So much for putting more focus on the blog like I wrote in June, haha. Sorry. I just haven’t felt like sitting by my computer updating you guys about random stuff I do. But we are having a pretty nice summer. How’s your summer?

This weekend, we wanted to explore a new place that is included in our beach pass (in Connecticut you need to pay for beach passes, Stamford has five locations). This park that we chose was supposed to have a waterfall and it looked really nice on pictures. Well, it had a waterfall, but it was a small river that didn’t look too awesome and the super short hike we went on to just check out the forest was full of broken glass and garbage. Not exiting at all and it broke my heart that people are idiots throwing things around that will hurt innocent animals. There were people in the water and they seemed to have fun but my husband and I were not intrigued, so we left. Instead we drove to a small garden/park area nearby. Very cute there. I just had to dance of course. So below is an improvisation I did to music by Explosion in the Sky. In the afternoon we went to an opening party for the Stamford Yoga Center that I’m a member of. That was about all the excitement of this weekend:)

Alive@Five: Cee Lo Green

Every Thursday during the summer, Stamford has a concert event called Alive@Five. We went there on Thursday. The concerts doesn’t actually start until later, but they open the gates at 5. The whole area is blocked off and the restaurants have some deals for their outdoor seatings. Plenty of companies trying to promote whatever they have (our building had a tent there trying to rent out the last few apartments that is left).

We started with dinner at a Mexican place while the first band, Oak & Ash, played in the background. Then we walked around and checked everything out, got some free stuff before CeeLo Green came on stage. I don’t know much of his music, but he has some famous song and it was a fun night.

Cove Island Park

Yesterday we left Thor at our neighbors apartment around 9:30 and then we packed a few things and drove to the Cove Island, a beach and park area 10 minutes from our apartment. Not much people around that time which was nice, they all came some time after noon. We stayed for about two hours. I dipped my whole body in the ocean twice, first swim of the year. So cold!! Jim, as always, didn’t go deeper than up to his ankles. I was one of the few people who actually let the whole body be under the cold water. I grew up by the beach in Sweden so I’m used to cold water:)

After we had packed our things and left it in the car, we went for a little walk in the park there. Lots and lots of families there who brought their big grills and all their relatives. Seemed like a normal Sunday for them:) Very cute area. We will definitely go back there.

In the afternoon, our neighbor dropped T off, J grilled some steak and corn on the rooftop and then we spent the rest of the night on our computers, me in my office upstairs blogging and J downstairs playing games.

This was really a wonderful weekend! Can’t be happier:) I hope you had an awesome weekend as well!

Restless Creature and Wendy Whelan

On Saturday, we went to see a film at the Avon Theater here in Stamford. A documentary, Restless Creature, about Wendy Whelan. She was a principal ballerina with the New York City Ballet for 30 years. The film is about when she had found herself injured in the hip and had to do a surgery. She has been dancing her whole life and had been very lucky to never have any bigger problems with her body before. She is a strong and beautiful dancer. After the surgery she eventually made a decision that she wanted to retire from NYC Ballet, after her 30 years in the company and she did a farewell performance. She was also working on some contemporary works with four male choreographers and together created the Restless Creature performance.

After the film, Wendy Whelan herself showed up for an Q/A with the audience. When that was done, some of the younger ballerinas in Stamford wanted to take pictures with her. We left to get coffee. On our way back home, we walked passed the theater and saw that she was standing there. I quickly walked up to her, got to talk to her and take a photo before she had to go. Starstruck! I didn’t know who she was until a few years ago when she was performing with those male choreographers (one of the choreographers is a guy I have taken classes for and I have worked with someone in his company). But now when I know who she is and know more about her work, it felt like I was walking up to a celebrity:)

Later in the afternoon, my husband and I walked to Harbor Point. It took us about 30 minutes. We wanted to find a place by the ocean to have a drink. That area is far from being done. Very industrial and they are building tons of new apartment buildings. We looked at some apartments there in December but we are so happy we found a place somewhere else. We sat down at two places before we took the trolley back to the city center. We finished the evening with grilled food and the movie Hairspray. A pretty awesome day!

Like a little kid

beach-stamford-april8-2017_01We’ve had an awesome weekend. Saturday morning started early. We dropped Thor off at the pet spa, bought coffee on the way home and had a nice morning just the two of us. After three hours, we went to get T. We weren’t very clear on what we wanted when we dropped him off, part because T was freaking out and we couldn’t hear each other, but we showed her a picture from his last haircut and then asked her for longer hair in the face. On the picture he has about an inch long hair but it’s hard to see so he actually kinda ended up shaved. He got a super cute fluffy tail and a fluffy face, so now he looks like a lion:) He looks a little weird, but I don’t mind. He has a sweater that he normally doesn’t fit in when he’s fluffy that now is perfect for him. He’s so cute. The spa lady was very professional too and really wanted to make sure we were happy. We will go back there, I liked it.
Right after haircut, we drove to a beach. Super windy! This was the first time Thor went to a beach and met sand. He wasn’t actually allowed on the sand, but since the season hasn’t started yet we thought we could just quickly introduce the sand to him. I hope we can find a beach where dogs are allowed, at least in the morning, so that Thor can really enjoy it. His short haircut is perfect for it too.

In the afternoon, Jim and I walked down to the city center for food. We have been wanting to try a place, Lucky’s, since we first saw it the first time we were in Stamford. This place is what I pictured restaurants looked like before I came to America. I put ¢5 in the jukebox and picked a song but it never played, maybe it didn’t work, but it was still fun. The burgers were awesome. I chose gluten free bun and salad with my bacon cheese burger. Suddenly Jim pointed at a kids meal that they were carrying out. Mac and cheese served in a paper Buick. I got so jealous. That looked so cool! Of course, when our waiter came, J asked if I could have one. We were waiting for fried pickles and when they were done they got served in a car. I was like a little kid, excited and couldn’t stop laughing about how awesome this was. I sent pictures to my dad cause I know he will love this pace and I’m sure he would want a car too:)

With my paper car in a bag (yes, I saved it of course) we walked over to the mall. The only time I’ve been to Stamford before we went here to look at apartments, I went to this mall (in 2011). It’s huge. We only checked out parts of two floors out of 7. Somehow I ended up buying two puzzles and a coloring book. I really was a kid that day, haha. Back home, I just couldn’t wait to begin to puzzle. 1000 pieces. Eventually I stopped and we watched a movie before we went to bed. On Sunday morning I got up, all excited, made coffee and went back to puzzle while J did our taxes. Our Sunday afternoon wasn’t too exciting. We went grocery shopping, took T for a long walk around the city, watched baseball, I colored in my new coloring book, continued my puzzle and we ate dinner at our bar for the first time. Our new chairs came on Friday so now we can enjoy dinners for real and not eat at the coffee table.

Right now I’m waiting for the maintenance guy to show up. The outlet on our terrace seemed to be switched off or something so he’s gonna come and take a look. We still haven’t found any patio furniture but we bought lights that we wanted to put up out there. I’m really looking forward to summer!
