back to summer for a weekend

November 9, 2020

Good Morning you beautiful people! How are you doing? I feel amazing! Congestion and a runny nose but other than that I feel great. This weekend we went back to summer and I love it. Temperatures of around 22°c and blue sky, how wonderful! Took Thor out in a t-shirt and the sun was so nice and warm, felt way higher than 22 degrees. Today they say will be the last warm day of the year (same temp as the weekend) so I’m gonna try to spend as much time as I can outside today.

This weekend was more or less about shopping or spending time outside🙈 On Saturday morning we drove to Mianus park but the parking lot was full so we couldn’t go hiking. Instead we drove to a small but cute park nearby. We let Thor off leash and he had so much fun.
We dropped Mr Fluff off at home and went to costco and we might have broken our personal record on crap to buy hahaha. I had to reorganize all the cabinets when we came home in order to fit it all and some still need to go upstairs to our storage:)
In the evening we watched my favorite movie, Leon the Professional. I’ve seen it so many times I’ve lost count, haha.

So nice to sit outside in November!

We wanted to spend Sunday on Manhattan, but after seeing a lot of footage of people celebrating out on the street practicing no social distancing, we decided not to. An Election doesn’t change a Pandemic. We are in this together, we have to stop this virus together, each and everyone of us has to do our part. Celebrate all you want but please remember that we are not done with this chapter yet.

Instead of driving to NYC we spent some time at Target. Probably not much better, but at least we went early before everyone else decided to go there. We have a big list of things we need and since we had to return the dog costume that was too small for Thor anyway, we decided to go there. Crossed off some things, but probably have to order some stuff on amazon today as well. Just boring things like garbage bags, detergent etc. Everything weirdly always runs out at the same time. If we have to go into some sort of lockdown again (you never know) I think it’s good to start buying things that we would need for the next few months.
When J was watching a terrible Bears game, I went to our terrace to do my daily practice. The sun was gone already so I had to put more clothes on but still nice. I love doing my yoga outside.

ruff year for Mr Fluff

October 5, 2020

Good Morning! I woke up at 4am today and could not fall back to sleep. I listened to maybe 5 different sleep meditations and it did not work. Finally at 7am I fell asleep only to wake up 20 minutes later. My plan was to get up around 6 today but I knew I would be too tired if I actually got out of bed then. Oh well. Maybe I can take a nap later:)

This weekend didn’t turn out the way we had planned but still ended up being a really nice weekend. On Thursday we noticed that Thor didn’t want to eat all day. He doesn’t really like the new food (for his bladder stones) so sometimes it takes him awhile to start eating, but on Thursday he was acting a little strange and didn’t want to eat at all. In the late afternoon after we came inside from a potty break, he threw up on the rug by the couch. Quite large and there was what looked like blood in it but we weren’t sure. This seemed to have helped him though, he ate all his food right away and drank lots of water. T seemed fine now so I wasn’t too worried. But then in the morning when J took him out he had blood in his poop, so J called the vet and we got an appointment an hour later.
We were still not allowed to come inside because of corona rules, so they just grabbed Thor and kept him in there for quite some time. They found a tiny bone (?!) in his stomach that could have caused the blood (no idea what that could be, we haven’t seen him pick anything up outside) but they didn’t seem too worried. He got a shot through his back into his stomach and gave us medication. But, the x-rays showed that his bladder stones looked slightly bigger. We had to collect a urine sample later that day and bring it in and the result showed that his pH was 6. Back in March it was at 8 and meant that we could try new diet and see if it would go away by itself, but now it was a 6 which means that he might need that surgery after all. We don’t want it to turn into an emergency operation so I think we should just go ahead and schedule him in.
Thor is like his normal self again. He is eating, drinking and has lots of energy, so that’s all good. But ya, the stones is an issue.

On Saturday we had invited our friends to go to a pumpkin/apple farm but since Thor was feeling so crappy before, we canceled. So we had a slow morning at home. Around noon J and I went to the rooftop. Our building decided to host an Oktoberfest for everyone. We had to sign up for a time slot (so that there wouldn’t be too much people at the same time), wear masks and practice social distance. They had beer, snacks and hotdogs. I ate two of the vegan hotdogs and they were so good! We sat up there for awhile, the sun was really nice and warm.

In the afternoon we took Thor for a walk over to the Orthodox church a block away where they host a Greek Festival every year. No rides or games outside or activities inside this year, only the food, but that’s the only reason why we come anyway:) I got a falafel, J got gyro and then we ordered loukoumades fresh out of the fryer. The food was not that great this year, my falafel was missing the tzatziki and hummus and J’s gyro was drenched in sliced tomato which he doesn’t like. Oh well. After that we watched the new Mulan movie.

On Sunday we were all tired so we ended up sleeping in til 10 am!! Because it was Cinnamon Bun Day I told Jim to go pick up coffee and a coffee roll at Donut Delight. Their coffee cake is the closest thing to a cinnamon bun around here, unless I bake it myself. While still sipping my coffee, my sister called on facetime. Soon I noticed it was already 1pm and I had promised to call my mom on facetime before it was too late. So from one call to another. We only talked for twenty minutes and then J and I went for a walked around downtown with Thor. We dropped him off at home and went out again to go eat the Mexican place. We sat outside at first but the wind got too cold so we moved inside to a table away from the rest of the restaurant. I absolutely love their guacamole and salsa so I always order extra:)
Back home it was time for football. I spent my evening upstairs on my computer planning out this week.

Hope y’all had an amazing weekend!

not much of an update

Thor loves going to the park

Hellu hellu! I don’t have a lot to update you guys on these days. J and I are both busy during weekdays, the virus is getting worse out here so we don’t really do anything special, we have booked a hotel and planned on going on a road trip twice but both times we ended up canceling, we have been out to eat a few times at places with less people, we have also taken Thor for hikes in different parks (and also failed at that at times since the parks are so packed with people these days because a lot of the kids play areas are still shut down), so there’s not much to update about. We mostly just hang out at home and let the days go by, waiting for life without the virus ruling our days.
And we have no update about the house. We sort of gave up on it at one point about a month ago but then the seller kinda wanted to keep us in the mix, so we are just waiting to see what will happen but at the same time we are searching for other homes/lots to build a house.

I hope all of you readers are doing good! I hope you are taking care of yourself and that you and your loved ones are all safe and well.

Random pictures from the last few weeks:

Beautiful evening walks, enjoying the nice temperatures before the colder weather comes
Thor is a disaster in the car on the way to parks, but nice and quiet on the way homeSunrise, August 31, 6:08 am
Morning yoga on out terrace became a favorite of mine:

Cove Island Park, the closest beach we have.
We haven’t been to the actual beach this year though 🙁Sometimes it’s nice to not cook at home
Scalzi Park, a baseball/playground park by a high school a few blocks from our apartment
Family walk in our neighborhoodOne day, J and T came home with flowers for me from the Farmers Market
(I think I deserved it as I was scrubbing every inch of our home
that day while they were out having a good time hahah)
Last weekend we went to Mianus River Park. We found a new path that we ended
up loving and where noone else walked (all the other trails was packed with families)

Day 9

July 20, 2020

Helluuu! We still don’t know anything about the whole house thing, so I have nothing to tell you about that hahah. We are still keeping an eye or two open for other homes all over America (and the world…) while we are waiting, cause you never know. Of course it is a bit difficult when we can’t go visit places and see for ourselves in person. In the beginning of this year we made a few decisions; I would go back to dance – meaning, take the train into Manhattan more often and focus on really go back to be a part of the dance world again, possibly perform – and then our main focus for us as a married couple we would take all the time we could to look for homes and research areas. But corona destroyed those plans. This virus has been shattering a lot of people’s plans, and frankly, it sucks. But, it is what it is, we can’t do anything about it. Noone planned for a pandemic. So we are doing the best we can. There is no dance world to go back to in person, everything is online for now until at least January 2021 (at least around here) and traveling isn’t exactly recommended. But we do eventually want to move. We are staying here probably until august next year (that’s when our current lease is up) so we have a little bit of time, but also not really. We’ll see.

And what have we been doing during our quarantine? Today is day 9. We haven’t noticed any symptoms so far, but we know that we could still be carriers. It would be nice to go get a test after these two weeks, just to see if we have developed any antibodies or not. For now, we are fine staying at home. It is very hot and humid outside these days. I went for a morning walk by myself this morning before other people were out and it was already 27 degrees and 80% humid. I don’t mind it though:) This past week we haven’t done much, I don’t even remember what we have been doing really. I have facetimed with my sister and niece and we have enjoyed our terrace. On Saturday, after a curbside pickup we decided to take Thor for a little walk along the water before driving back. Felt good to leave the apartment and our neighborhood for a second. It wasn’t hard to keep our distance, and people we met also had masks, unlike in the south. That was probably the most exciting thing we did last week haha. Life is quite simple:)

All of last week, campers filled up Latham Park in downtown as a demonstration for BLM.
They are now gone since they didn’t have any permits.
Yesterday they apparently painted all of the downtown streets

First summer days

June 1, 2020

Hi hello how are you? We are doing good over here. Thor still has stones in his bladder but doesn’t seem bothered by it, however he still has ear infections and it’s driving us all a bit nuts. Jim and I have had several sniffles since February which we are a bit tired of by now, but that’s how it is when you spend so much time with each other, you just pass it back and forth I guess and the immune system can’t keep up. But we feel good overall and that’s all that matters:)

What has happened since last I wrote.. hmm…it’s been a week. To be honest, not much until this weekend really. I have barely even been working out cause I could tell that if I would push through my latest cold it would get so much worse, so I have mostly just done restorative yoga. And the weather has been pretty boring.

But this weekend we had the first real summer day with 27°c degrees and sunny (!!) and I got a lot of my energy back. Basically all of Saturday I spent doing different things on our terrace. We started with breakfast inside but then I brought my coffee out and finished reading a book. After that I carried all my planties out to add some more potting soil to them. No replanting needed but for some reason all my plants like to eat their soil, the palm tree was basically just roots. I also planted some seeds but I don’t know if they will actually come up this year, I have been waiting for the potting mix to be delivered for weeks and I don’t know if it’s too late now…but, I planted some stuff anyway, we’ll see.
We went for our weekend walk on the “cute street” but it was too hot for Thor so we didn’t walk the whole way. Still nice to be out, noone was outside on Saturday and it was very quiet all day.
And then I organized the terrace while the boys were taking naps, not much but it is really cute and cozy out there now. One string light died over the winter so I moved one that we had and put up a new fairy light that I ordered. When I was done I grabbed a new book to read and just sat there enjoying my new outdoor space:)
In the evening we first watched some MMA fights and then watched two hours of ballet. Lincoln Center has a “Dance Week” where you can go to their website and watch some old recordings of dance performances. On Saturday it was “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” from 1986 with NYCBallet. On Sunday I watched a bit from an evening with several different ballets with ABT at Metropolitan Opera House 1978. There are three more shows I plan to watch this week.
When I sat on our terrace by myself on Saturday, my heart and mind felt so full of gratitude. I’m “happy” the pandemic and quarantine happened now and not when we lived on Manhattan, that would have been a very different experience for us. Now we have our own private terrace and streets to walk where you meet very few people. We have everything we need and most of all we have each other.

It’s so wonderfully green outside

Lady bugs visiting means good luck…but how did she fly all they way up to 7th floor..?
My hairy man in the reflection..he looks like a caveman now hahah

However, we do live right next door to a police station. On Sunday we started our morning with coffee in the sun, and then I cleaned the whole apartment and did some laundry (Sundays has become my tidy-up day). After all that we were both pretty hungry so we decided to walk over to the Mexican place downtown to order some take-outs. What we didn’t know was that every street around here was blocked off by the police and outside the police station was a large group of protesters. We managed to avoid it by walking around those crowded blocks and we got our mexican order. Aaah, guacamole! Jim got tacos and I got veggie quesadillas, it was amazing! And then we didn’t do much for the rest of that day. Sat outside for a little bit, we ordered some stuff we needed, I watched ballet and at night we drank tea and watched Scrubs.

A very healthy breakfast hahah
A young Baryshnikov:)

We had an absolute amazing weekend! Finally warm weather, I am so happy:) I hope you had a fantastic weekend as well.
Have an awesome week!

Edit: CT articles says that the protesting in Stamford had been very peaceful. The police department showed their support and together they all went down on their knees for 8 minutes of silence. I was very happy to read this, there are too much s*** going on in the rest of the country. Violence is never the answer.
