Record Store Day

April 15, 2019

It was Record Store Day on Saturday. Jim mentioned this the night before. On this day they were gonna release new special editions, collectors albums etc in some Record Stores around America. There is one store in Darien that we have been to before, we also took my parents there two years ago. We looked everywhere online on when they would open, it said 10:30 am, so we decided to go get some stuff at Walmart and then have breakfast at a diner before. We arrived at the Record Store at 10:30 and ended up in a line. People were already inside so I guess they had opened earlier. We finally got in to this tiny store, Jim found the Pink Floyd album he wanted, grabbed a Green Day one as well cause they seemed popular (we are not opening it in case we can sell it later), but no Elvis album. I saw on the list that there was a John Cage album as well but didn’t find that either. Ninja Turtles, Spiderman and other tv stuff was very popular, they were all gone and people put themselves up on waiting lists.

We never ever wait in line for things unless we really want to do something, like ice skating at Rockefeller or getting an album of Pink Floyd hahah. Jim was happy, so I’m happy. We listened to the album to our morning coffee on Sunday.

Other than that, we didn’t do much this weekend. Worked out, enjoyed the sun (in shorts!), grilled meat, watched our neighbors cat, skyped with my parents and last night we watched Game of Thrones (like everyone else in the world). Hope you had an awesome weekend!

Beautiful sunset on Saturday, seen from the neighbors window

CT News 12 was there. You can see a quick glimpse of Jim and me behind some people:)
(Not sure you can watch this clip in other countries though)

a weekend mostly outside

April 8, 2019

Feels like I only share weekend updates with you guys. Oh well. Here’s another one 😀

This weekend actually gave us nice weather and we tried to enjoy it to the max.

Jim wanted to play basketball at the athletic club now before they close down. Since he was the only one in there I decided to join him but danced instead. Nice with lots of space.

We drove to costco around lunch time. We broke our previous record on how much money we spent there. Meat, more meat, salmon, bread, cheese, coffee, power bars, a $4 Fila sweater for me, two books and $25 puma shoes for Jim. Sometimes you can actually find some good deals, like a cheap sweater or real nice meat. We had a very awesome (and huge) steak for dinner that night.

After shopping we took Thor for a long walk to the dog park and then we sat in the sun on the rooftop in our building for awhile.

I woke up in the middle of the night with a sore throat so we took it pretty easy all Sunday morning. We had planned to go climbing but since I felt a little mushy we decided to bring Thor and drive down to Harbor Point instead. We walked by the water and then in the new park area. There’s a dog park as well and Thor got along with all the big dogs there…until one big dog attacked him and we decided to leave.

Back in the apartment J went to the gym and I decorated our wreath that we have on the door. Why buy a new wreath when you can decorate the same one for each season? I’ve had two spring flowers in it after Christmas and now I changed into feathers and eggs for Easter.

Then we went to our now normal weekend bar. I really wanted oysters so I first ordered 3 and then 3 more all just for myself:) later, Jim made burgers for dinner – with meat from costco of course. And then I was done for the day, just watched crap on tv before going to bed.

I feel so much better today. Taking it easy yesterday was perfect. It was hard to get up when my alarm went off at 6 am, it took me another 30 minutes before I got up and took Thor out, but once I was up I was fit for fight. And then I went to the gym. Only for 20 minutes though before J had to leave for work. I have stuff to do today and we are going into the city tonight so I wanted to just get some cardio in right in the morning. Now I’m ready for a new week:)

An evening alone with the pup

March 27, 2019

Currently sitting on the couch with my laptop, Thor sleeping by my feet, I’m having a glass of red and the tv is on. Jim is out to dinner with work. He hasn’t been out with work really at all since we moved here, it’s just not as easy as before cause most people wants to go out in NYC it seems like. But he’s out with his team now closer to work.

This week I’m pretending that it is warmer than it is outside. I’m just so sick of winter and staying inside, so I’ve been out for longer walks. Yesterday Thor and I walked to Mill River Park. Noone in the park. Thor was so happy and excited to be out for a long walk and to be in the park. He loves the words “walk” and “park” and when putting them together, it doesn’t matter where we are going or how far, he is super excited no matter what. I also make it sound exciting:) We were gone for over an hour. We have been for longer walks today as well. We both need it, Thor and I, after a long winter:)

Copenhagen for a day in January

March 21, 2019

It’s been two months since we were in Copenhagen for a day and Sweden for a week. Thought I would share some bits from our day in Denmark now.
Jim and I spent an afternoon in Copenhagen a few years ago and on that trip we did most of all the touristy stuff. On January 18, we landed around noon, grabbed our bag, found the train, traveled two stations and then walked over to our hotel. Quickly dropped our stuff off, freshened up and then went out in to the city. Beautiful sunny day but oh so cold. We were both pretty hungry so we walked down to Nyhavn and just picked one of the restaurants there. All the good restaurants in Copenhagen have seafood so it was a bit hard to find things on menu that I could eat since I was pregnant then. But we found a small place, I ordered meatballs and was so jealous of J’s shrimp skagen (that’s a must when you go to Scandinavia). We continued to walk around but it was just so cold now. There was one super old and very “denmark’y” bar that we went to the last time that we only stayed at for about 5 minutes before they closed then so J wanted to go back there. After-work Danish people in this old wooden room, haha, it was just too good:) Then we went to check out bar after bar. Not very fun for me who didn’t want to order sugary sodas everywhere. When you ask for seltzer water in Scandinavia they give you a bottle (like one you can buy in stores) and charge you for it and asking for a lemon with it seemed like a strange thing to do. Not at all like going out in America where they just keep filling up your glass and give you as many lemons you want.
We actually didn’t have anything to do in Copenhagen. It was nice to be there again thought cause unlike the last time we were there, everything was now open (it was a Friday night this time, last time it was Sunday and everything closed before 7pm). We had dinner reservations at The Olive Kitchen & Bar at like 6:30 pm, which seemed a bit too close to our late lunch, but whatever, that was the only reservation they had available when we booked. A very cute place. No walk-ins welcome because it was fully booked. We picked this restaurant out of all the fancy ones (Copenhagen is known for their restaurants) because it had things I could eat on the menu plus it didn’t seem like tiny portions for a billion bucks. We are ok spending some extra money on food but then we expect to be full. A lot of times, especially in Scandinavia I’ve noticed, you first overpay, they make an effort on appearance rather than taste and then you walk out of there being hungry. We didn’t want that. This was a fancier place with real plates. For starter we ordered ribs and this is the first time we ate ribs with gloves on (see the last picture of Jim hahah). Felt like we were going to color each others hair 😀 Ribs were really good. And then I ordered salmon and J ordered some meat and both dishes were very yummy. Good choice and I would recommend you to go there if you visit Copenhagen, but make sure to make a reservation, we made one the week before.

After dinner we decided to go back to our hotel. It was only 8:30 but it was freezing outside plus I had only slept for two hours in total the past two days. Back in our hotel room we started to laugh at ourselves. Going to bed before 9 when we are on vacation, nah. So we went to the downstairs bar where we met an Australian CEO of some big company. He kept buying J beers and made bets about random stuff. I just sat there with my seltzer water in a bottle.

And that’s it. That’s all we did. Ended up going to bed before midnight, I slept for maybe an hour in total that night and then had to get up at 6am to shower, repack our stuff and then take the train to Sweden at 7 am.

I filmed our Denmark/Sweden trip as well. I haven’t decided if I should make a video or not. Would you like to see a video from our trip? Also, I have written before that I would post a video from Charleston but things happened and I put it away. Would you want to watch that as well? Please comment and let me know.
