After snorkeling and some exploration of the town on Sunday last week on Grand Cayman, we walked back to a cute restaurant, Da Fish Shack, by the water where they had a sign saying that they serve Wahoo, which I of course had to try since I’ve never heard of it before and it was fun to say. Really good fish. Together with the fish I ordered something else that I’ve never tried or hear of before, breadfruit fries. Yum yum! Tastes like potato. On the way back to the hotel, we saw several trees with breadfruit. So I guess I had seen it before but didn’t know what it was.

Eden Rock

On Sunday, we knew that everything in the town would be closed, but we still walked all the way there to check it out. Our mission was to get to Eden Rock to snorkel. There were a parade happening (Monday was a Remembrance Day), a cruise ship that came in with people but other than that, George Town was empty. And so was Eden Rock. Noone in the water, so we jumped in and started to explore. I was a little hesitant since it was cloudy and the bottom of the ocean was dark, but once the sun came out it was fun. We took a swim out to a raft to take a break for a bit and then went back again. Apparently they have a lot of Tarpon fish here, and we almost bumped right into them. And Jim saw Nemo.
We are thinking of going back to Eden Rock tomorrow because there is a Devil’s Grotto to explore if you swim the other direction than we did on Sunday.

Coffee on the beach

Woke up at 6:30 am today, had my morning coffee on the beach. Oh, I wish I could have my coffee on the beach every morning!
Our vacation on Grand Cayman is absolutely amazing. Both my husband and I love to explore and go on adventures when we go to new places, so we are actually kinda busy. I have a lot of pictures to share, of course, and I will update as soon as I have chosen which ones I want to post here.

15 mile bike ride

Yesterday we each got one bike from the hotel and went for an adventure to the northern part of the island, West Bay. After only few minutes into our ride the rain poured down us. We found cover under a garage and waited 5 minutes for the rain to stop, and then off again. It was kinda nice to be a little wet because it only got hotter and hotter outside. We made some short stops and then we finally came to the end of the 7 mile beach.
With snorkels ready we went down to the Turtle Reef. This was my second time ever to snorkel (first time was in Mexico 2014). So wonderful! Amazing experience. I didn’t go out too far though, because I wanted to just get a feeling of how it is. After snorkeling, we stayed at their restaurant and had lunch before we took our bikes to go back again.
It was a bit scary to ride the bike at first, but once you get a feel about how the traffic is, it was just fine. With over 32 degrees, it was absolutely perfect to be on a bike to get some wind on our bodies.
We came back to the hotel and went straight into the ocean for more snorkeling. There is a lot of man made reefs there. If we wouldn’t have been snorkeling there, I’m sure we would have bumped right into them.
Yesterday was an amazing day! We are not the kind of people who only stays by the pool, we like to explore, and yesterday was a perfect day with adventures, amazing weather and fun fish to look at.

Waking up in Grand Cayman

palmtrees-cayman

We’re on Grand Cayman. Wonderful weather! Wonderful beach! Wonderful ocean! Wonderful palm trees! Everything is just wonderful! Yesterday after we had got settled in at the hotel and had some food, we went straight in to the ocean. The water was almost body temperature and it was so nice to swim around. I have never seen this clear water and it’s beautifully blue.
I sat on our balcony for a little bit now this morning. Then I decided to go in and grab my camera and computer. It didn’t even take 5 seconds and both were moist. I wanted to take a picture of my beautiful morning view but the lens kept getting fuzzy from this humid weather. I succeeded to take the picture above only because I used a towel to wipe it right before I snapped, hahaha. So, I went inside to blog instead. But now I’m gonna get ready because I don’t want to waste a single minute on this island.
