Dec 27th, Manhattan

When Jim’s aunt Cindy was here for Christmas, we of course had to take her to Manhattan. It was a beautiful but freezing day. We walked around Midtown in a circle. From Grand Central to Central Park, down to Times Square through Rockefeller and back to Grand Central. We had a lovely day.

I didn’t bring my camera this time. I used my new phone, but I still haven’t figured out all the settings so they are maybe not the best. But here is our Manhattan day in pictures:)
(Rockefeller pictures coming in next post).

An afternoon in the NYC

After my breakfast and blogging yesterday, I took the pup out for a longer walk before I had to leave for class. It was a “strength” class, a one time thing. My legs are so sore today!! I came home, took T out again (he didn’t do all his business before) and then I jumped into the shower, had leftovers for lunch, got myself ready and took T out again (still nothing).

Took the train into Manhattan and decided to go for a walk and “inhale the city” like I call it. Walked from Grand Central to Bryant Park and sat down on a bench for a few minutes. People watching can be very nice sometimes:) Continued my walk down on Broadway, passed Macy’s and soon I was down in Chelsea.

Jeanette was a little late so I went to Fika on 16th and 6 ave. I was really really sweaty and needed air conditioner! I ordered a soy latte with extra espresso and a cinnamon bun and read in my book until she came. Oh! It’s been like 6 months since last time I saw her. It’s nice to have her back in NYC. She is such warmhearted person and I’m always inspired and happy after some time with her.

When she went to a class, I walked around. Inhaling the city:) Went to Washington Sq Park and saw some interesting dance/art/whatever it was, walked back to 18th to the container store and bought stuff for my home office. Considered to walk all the way up to Grand Central, but it was dark out and I was actually a bit tired. So I walked down to Union Sq, took the subway up and got on the train.

Pretty good day. Strength workout, lots of walking, a couple of fun fika hours with a friend and Manhattan time. I was excited and inspired to do a bunch of stuff today, but things changed and I needed to care for my little pup. He seems a lot better now, just a bit tired still.

New York Stock Exchange

Yesterday, a picture popped up on facebook’s “on this day”. It was the picture I shared last year after my husband, my parents and I visited the New York Stock Exchange. I searched here on the blog and realized that I hadn’t posted it, but I had created a post (what’s up with that?).
So here’s the post I wrote a year ago about our NYSE experience. Lets start with pictures 🙂

One of the days when my parents where in New York, we got the chance to visit the New York Stock Exchange. Jim found someone through work who arranged for us to go there and get a tour. The guy, who had worked there for many years but now works out in NJ, was really nice and he gave us a history of the building and how the stock exchange has developed over the years. I had already been to the Chicago Board Option Exchange (see my blog post HERE), but there is something extra special to see the NY one since it has been in so many movies and tv-shows. A lot of interesting history here too. It’s actually smaller than you think and the tour was basically just that big room.
This was in the end of the day and on a day when not a lot was going on, so there wasn’t much of action in there, but it made it perfect for us to visit and not be in the way for anyone. In Chicago when I was there, it was the day before Thanksgiving and basically all men was gathered in that little spot (check out my post) to buy and sell stuff. Not much of that action at the NYSE that day:)

My neighbor, who all of a sudden walked by us on the floor, told me the next day that only a few minutes after we had left the building, P-Diddy showed up there. Apparently they have a lot of celebrities who gets invited for tours there too. And, most movies and stuff is actually filmed inside there and it’s the guys who work there who gets to be in the background as extras.
I’m very happy that my husband and I got the chance to bring my parents to something that most people don’t get to experience. I bet that noone they know in Sweden has been inside there, haha. They kept telling us how grateful they are that they got this opportunity. Jim had never been inside there either so this was a new thing for all of us.

A night in the city

A month or so ago, my husband and I talked about renting a cabin for the Memorial Day weekend. We wanted a quiet place in a forest, just me and my husband enjoying each others company and leaving our phones at home. Instead, we ended up booking a hotel room on Manhattan, haha. On Thursday last week, Jim booked a room at a hotel that I’ve always thought looked cool, The Dream Downtown. Hahahha. Instead of quiet time in the woods, we stayed in one of the busiest cities in the world, a city we had just moved away from 😀

We left Thor with the dog sitter and took the train into the city. It takes about 50 minutes with the express train into Grand Central. This was actually my first time going back into the city since we moved here. It felt like I had been gone for way longer than only two months. J had the opposite feeling. When we arrived at the hotel in Chelsea, they upgraded us to a bigger room. So far, all hotel rooms I’ve stayed at in NYC has been pretty small. We now had a King room and it was pretty tiny if you compare to anywhere else outside New York. But, it was a pretty cool room and it’s a cool looking hotel. Interesting details. We were kinda hungry so we walked over to Artichoke pizza. We bought one slice each to-go but brought it only a few steps over to their outdoor seating. Others were waiting for table service but we enjoyed our to-go pizza, haha. I thought for sure they were gonna ask us to leave, but they didn’t.

Back at the hotel, after I had put some makeup on and changed into heels, we went to check everything out at the hotel. Then we got a free drink in their Mexican restaurant downstairs and then we went to their rooftop bar, PHD, where we also got free drinks. Jim has been to this bar before but this was my first time. I thought it was really nice. Great view and relaxed. After this we ended up at a few more places. A thai restaurant (where we actually also got free drinks haha), a club that I’ve been to several times before that has an indoor pool and a rooftop, the Tao restaurant that is pretty cool looking (but apparently the food there isn’t that great), and then we somehow ended up at the thai place again.

We must be really old or something, hahah, cause we were back at the hotel and passed out before 11pm. In the morning we slept til basically we had to check out at noon. It was so nice to wake up whenever we wanted instead of getting a billion kisses in the face at 6am 🙂 (we love our dog, but sometimes its nice to sleep in).

My husband and I have so much fun together! I love doing random weird stuff with him. We haven’t laughed this much in a while. My husband is very spontaneous and I try to be the same. It’s more fun that way. And it’s fun to be a “tourist” in the city for a day:) We had a fun little mini trip to Manhattan.
