First Day of Fall

A video posted by Fanny Sura (@thisisfanny) on

The summer ended at 10:21. I am not ready for fall yet. Good thing it’s still warm in NYC and next weekend we are going to Florida, so I get to enjoy the summer a bit longer.
Today I’m supposed to have some guys to come and do things in the bathroom and kitchen. They will do all the apartments in the building, so who knows when they will come today, or if it’s even today. The weather is lovely so I would actually like to enjoy it, but I want to be able to quickly take Thor out of the way when the guys shows up. Hmm, maybe I should just bring a lot of water and T can come with me:)

Colin Stetson & Sarah Neufeld // Never Were The Way She Was

This is the music video that I was a part of in May. I think this came out beautifully and I really enjoy watching it! Derrick Belcham (www.astorytoldwell.com) did a terrific job! And so did Colin and Sarah , who played their 8 minute long music over and over while we danced inside these awesome costumes.

First day we went to Stockholm Royal Palace. In the middle of the filmclip it started to rain. Very cool when everyone disappears from the site and left is just us dancing:)

Contact Improvisation

ENGLISH: We were visited by Nita Little at our rehearsal today. She is friends with JoAnna , our choreographer, and was invited to work with us with contact improvisation. In the 70’s Nita participated in the exploration of contact improvisation with Steve Paxton. A pretty cool woman and really fun to have a class with her. Nita was awesome!
It was nice to get back to that kind of work. I feel like I’ve lost a lot of what we did for example in school in Sweden and Portugal, or what I appreciated to see on stage for that matter. I went to New York to see if there was a difference of modern dance in Europe and modern dance in America. What I now after almost three years later have realized is that what interests me most, like floor work and contact improvisation, is hard to find here. I find it hard to get back to myself and what I’m good at and it’s probably because I don’t meet it daily anymore.
I think it was good for us in the company to have that contact with each other. It is a very intimate meeting and you have to really listen to each other’s bodies. All we did today was supposed to enable us to broaden our perspective when it comes to our “Alpha Gina”. For example what other way is there to lift each other, and what can the person being lifted (the alpha) do in the lift? We didn’t get very far with just that today, but today’s three hours gave us at least more tools to make use of.
