Get sh*t done

Thor and I yesterday

Getting things done this week. This morning I had an appointment to x-ray my knees. I was done 4 minutes after my scheduled appt, I appreciate that:) Tomorrow I’m going to get my vitamin level tested or something, I don’t even know, it’s just some normal routine check that my doctor who looked at my knees told me I have to do. Jim did it a year or two ago. I just called the orthodontics office and made an appointment for Thursday to get my retainer fixed, cause apparently one part on my upper teeth is loose (my dentist told me to go get it fixed almost a year ago and I haven’t been yet,..oops).
Today we are getting our car back from having it repaired from Jim’s accident (we were supposed to get it back weeks ago but it was more damaged than we thought). At some point this week I have to go and get a beach pass for the car as well. In Stamford you need a parking pass for all public beaches, which seems stupid but whatever. I’m also waiting for our building to do some yearly inspection of the apartment today or tomorrow. Since I don’t want Thor to freak out too much or run away or something when they come, I want to be with him, so I have been waiting all day for nothing. The test tomorrow might be quick, but I read that they have long waiting even when you have an appointment. So, we’ll see, Thor might have to be alone for awhile.

It’s not much, but it feels good to get sh*t done the week before I start a new year. Iiiihhh, it’s my birthday on Monday! (have I mentioned that I love birthdays 😉 ) We haven’t made any plans this weekend to celebrate, but I have something I want to do on Monday. Just need a dog sitter and a bit of courage:)

Update: Doctor just called me about my knees. There’s no real issue there. There seems to be something small in one knee and if I have pain I can eat a bunch of painkillers for a week (I hate pills, so…no). I tried to ask him more questions but he wanted to hang up. So we’ll see what happens next. But, that’s good news that there is no real problems. Yay!

We found a new path to one of the parks near us
Thor is very handsome in his new haircut ♥

Summer Solstice 2018

Picture from the last time Jim was in Sweden, Aug 2016

Happy Summer Solstice! In Sweden we celebrate this day for real on the Friday near the solstice every year. Midsummer, one of the biggest celebrations we have in Sweden except for Christmas. Around this time, especially on Summer Solstice, the sun doesn’t go down. All summer long, we have 20 or more hours of sunlight which is something I absolutely love and miss.

Every year I tell my husband “Lets celebrate Midsummer in Sweden next year”. Tomorrow it’s my 8th time to celebrate it in America. Midsummer away from Sweden is never the same. Sure, when I do go and celebrate it in Sweden in the future it will not be the same as before either. I’m not a teenager or young adult anymore, I wouldn’t celebrate in the same way. I’m now looking forward to spend this day with family instead of running around trying to figure out who’s having the most fun party lined up. I’ve done that, don’t need more of it.

When I was a kid it was special to stay up all night, go pick daisies or other flowers to make a crown out of, or to try to find 7 different flowers to put under the pillow, or to dance all the silly dances around the maypole or eat strawberry cream cake that my grandma made or just being silly with my sister.

I get emotional the days before and the day of midsummer when I can’t celebrate it in Sweden. This day is about a week before my birthday, the sun doesn’t go down, it’s 6 months away from Christmas. I love this time of the year, always have. The light has always meant a lot to me. It means a lot to all of us Swedish people, because in the winter we never see it, haha.
One day, I will show my husband how it is in Sweden on Midsummer:)

My morning yoga the same day as the photo on top was taken

Today is also International Yoga Day. To be honest, I haven’t done much yoga the past few months. I cancelled my membership at Stamford Yoga because I wasn’t taking enough classes. Just didn’t feel like it. But I have told myself that I will try to do some kind of yoga every day for a month starting Saturday. Doesn’t have to be a full advanced practice, just something that gets my body moving on the mat. We don’t even need to call it yoga for all I care.
But I miss my practice that I had at DNA. I took several Mind Body Dancer Yoga classes per week. A lot of students did this because they thought it would be easy classes to get away with and they didn’t care about the program they were in, they just wanted an US Visa. But, I cared, I put in lots of effort into my practice and I enjoyed it (most of the time) and also, I had spent all my money on these classes so I had to love it, haha. That yoga made sense to me. No other yoga practice has been quite the same. MBDYoga is taught by really professional people who knows what they are talking about, I trust that they won’t ever let their students do stuff they shouldn’t.

I didn’t do any yoga today. Instead I joined my husband at the gym when he came home from work. Not in the mood at all for that, but I ended up really happy that I went. 40 minutes of pilates with all sort of weights to make it harder.

Jim is watching Breaking Bad right now and I’m doing stuff in my office. I watched two season of that show and really didn’t like it. Shows about drugs and stuff isn’t really fun to me, it’s just stupid. Anyway. Going back to all my stuff I’m doing.
I hope you had a wonderful Summer day!

Sweaty morning workout

Hi! Hope you’re doing good! I have had a pretty nice morning. I took Thor out, gave him breakfast, ate a banana and went to the gym while my hubby was getting ready for work. T and I walked by the gym around 6:45 and it was packed, like every machine was occupied. But when I showed up at 7:20 there was a girl in there for the first 4 minutes and then I was completely alone for an hour. A short warmup, 20 minutes elliptical, 20 min using weight machines and then finish with a little bit of abs work. I was so sweaty! It’s rare that I get sweaty, especially in the gym. When I dance I can get sweaty because I push myself harder and set high goals for myself, but in the gym, not much. But today I was Sweaty Betty and I loved every second of it.

The new x-ray machines at the radiology place has arrived but they couldn’t schedule me until next Tuesday, so I still don’t know anything about my knees. But as long as I keep moving my body it feels ok. And to be clear, my knees aren’t worse than they have been before. My husband apparently thought so because I have mentioned them more I guess, because I also had a tight muscle that was bothering me this time, but it’s been on and off for like 10 years. Some days it’s harder to walk in stairs, and some days I can do everything a body could be capable of:) It’s just good to check if there are things going on in there.

Knees and trees

Good Morning everyone! I hope you’ve had a wonderful week! Mine has been very up and down. I had an appointment with a doctor across the street from our apartment (same building as my dentist, very convenient) earlier this week. I wanted him to check if my ears are ok, cause it’s been feeling like they are full of shit and I was afraid that there would be something wrong with them. But nope, apparently they are extremely clean, so that’s good news. And then I had him check my knees.

If you have been reading my blog for awhile or perhaps since the start, then you know that I have discomfort in my knees from time to time (I don’t like to use the word pain). I have actually never had a doctor take a look at them before or done any x-rays, I have only been to sports medicine, physio-therapist etc. who works with dancers or athletes. Everyone has told me that there’s nothing wrong in my knees and then they end up massaging my back and cracking my neck and I’m like a new person for a few weeks until I’m back with discomfort again. The doctor checked my legs and nope, nothing wrong in my back. We decided that I should go get x-rays on both knees since I’ve never done that before and then we’ll see. The machines at the advanced radiology place here in Stamford is broken and will be fixed next week, so I’ll know more then.

Anyway, this has been a very emotional week for me. The doctor told me something what could be going on in my knees, and if that’s what it is, then I have a lifetime of work ahead of me and I took this pretty hard. But I’m motivated to fight for the rest of my life. But again, I’ll know more after my x-rays.

To something more fun. We are finally getting real summer this week and next. Yay! We’ve had really nice and warm days from time to time, and in between we had really cold and rainy days that feels like fall. It has been nicer in Sweden even. But now it seems like the high temperatures are staying, at least for two weeks, and I can finally say it’s summer. Last weekend we drove to Harbor Point to have coffee by the water and let Thor play in a park and a dog park on Saturday morning. And on Sunday we took Thor with us to a park I had heard about in Greenwich. It was a big and beautiful park. Not much people there and we got a good walk around the whole thing. So a very outdoorsy weekend. It’s good to bring Thor to places too. He still freaks out in the car every time, but we have to just keep trying, get him used to it.
Yesterday, my friend who recently moved from our building to a new place, came over and we went for a walk on the cute street near our house. Such a beautiful day yesterday! And it was nice to spend some time with her.

This weekend is supposed to be really nice as well. Not sure what we’re gonna end up doing. Hopefully we get our own car back today (it took much longer to fix it than expected after Jim’s accident). Would be nice to go to the beach, but I have to go get a beach pass for that. I walked over there last week but they needed registration and I didn’t know that. I’m watching my neighbors cat today and I have some other stuff I want to get done, so not sure if I have time to go all the way there to get the pass, we’ll see. Either way, I think this weekend will be awesome:)
