Are you superstitious? I don’t think I really am, but I think it’s fun to think about “what if it was true”. I believe the universe can help you and give you signs (others might call it God or whatever), and in a way some of these superstitious things could maybe be true as well but some are more negative which is less fun to believe in, like if a mirror brakes you will experience bad luck for 7 years, aah, that would suck (I’m good though, cause I kissed a stingray, haha). But if we keep our thoughts more positive we will attract more fun things, right?:)
Anyway. Hi! Another gorgeous day here in Stamford. I wouldn’t mind if it was bit warmer (“only” 82°f today), hahaha, never satisfied. Thor and I are hanging out on the terrace. We are hoping that Jim will come home a little earlier from work today. This umbrella on our table is acting like it’s gonna take off and go on it’s own adventures soon, iihh it kinda scares me. Can an outdoor umbrella bend backwards from a little wind?
We don’t know what our plans are for the weekend yet. Going on bike rides and swim in the ocean maybe, that would be lovely. I wish you an awesome Friday night and weekend!
I finally read my report of the x-rays of my knees. When the doctor called me he said there was some liquid in one knee and that if I ate a billion painkillers for a week it would go away. That wouldn’t explain my 10+ years of on and off pain though. So, I wanted to read the report and yesterday I could log in and see for myself. Yes, it read “suggestion of small knee effusion” in both left and right knee, aka a little liquid in my knees. So what causes this? Well, there can be many reasons but my google search said it can be injury (which I haven’t had any), overuse (well, duh, I’ve been a dancer my whole life) or chronic health conditions like osteoarthritis.
When I went to see the doctor in June, the very first thing he said just by feeling my knees a little bit was that it seems to be arthritis. That’s what I got bummed about. I kinda thought it could be. A few years ago I went to check a rash on my eye and it turned out I have psoriasis which can cause joint stiffness. Psoriasis and joint pain like arthritis exists in my family so I wasn’t chocked by this news, it’s just not the most exciting thing to hear.
It all makes sense. My feet has gotten extremely stiff over the past years when I haven’t done ballet, or any dance for that matter. My knees has been overused every single day for over 25 years as a dancer. If I have psoriasis and that can cause joint stiffness and I also have liquid in knees that can be cause by osteoarthritis, then I have got a pretty good idea what the heck is going on. I was thinking that I have to go see someone else to get a clear answer on if it is in fact any kind of arthritis, but I don’t think I need to.
I wanted to rule out skeleton problems, and now I have, there’s nothing wrong with my bones. If it’s temporarily liquid or chronic arthritis, then either way, I have to take care of my body better. Eat more of anti-inflammatory foods, avoid the food that triggers it, move my joints on daily basis (like I already do) but not over-do the same movements over and over like I know I can do sometimes, and the best of all: noone can force me to go on a long boring run:)
It’s a lifelong process and it’s ok. We all have lifelong processes to care for our bodies, we only have one, so there isn’t really any difference now. For two weeks now I have been paying a lot more attention to how my knees feel from day to day and then connect it with: moving too much, moving too little, did I eat a lot of sugar, eat enough broccoli etc.
This is good news to me, believe it or not. I’ve been terrified that I would end up in the hospital with broken bones every time I feel discomfort in my knees. If I can figure out the best way to live with stiff joints, then I don’t have to walk around in fear of getting broken legs anymore.
And today the doctor called me and gave me the results of the blood test I did two weeks ago. “Bullseye” was the word he used, haha. Apparently I’m extremely healthy, he said. Yay!
Here’s my birthday video. Aaahh, flying trapeze was so much fun! If you like this video, please head over to YouTube and press the thumbs up button because it supports my channel. And if you are not already a subscriber then I think you should press that button too:) Have an awesome day!
Yesterday we walked to downtown Stamford to find a place to have brunch and watch the game. We had been to the gym before and ended up leaving home a little late, so every place was packed. But we actually found two seats and was able to kinda see the game. Too bad it was a crappy game though (but hey, Sweden made it this far, they should be proud). We had fun at least. We saw someone with a Swedish jersey at the place, but the whole area was mostly British people or people who were cheering for England (three bars next to each other streaming the game so everyone was at the same place which made it an exciting area).
In the afternoon, we dropped Thor off with our neighbor and then walked to the train station. Train to Larchmont, NY, and then a 20 minute walk over to Mike’s house. Jim’s boss (Mike) and his twin brother are turning 50 today so they had a 100th Birthday Party yesterday. Very cute setup in their backyard with tables under a big tent. The food was really awesome too, just simple fried bbq stuff. There were plenty of kids there as well and they all ran around having fun and later some of them went kayaking out to the ocean (the water comes in by M’s house). A very relaxed birthday party outside in the sun. Some people J used to work with showed up and we had a really nice evening.
Hello! I’m currently watching my country play themselves in the World Cup 😀 (Cause Sweden and Switzerland is the same country, right?)
So, yesterday was insanely fun! I was so nervous before I got there. We were five students so we got to do a bit more (usually they have 10 people). But, it was extremely hot, around 35°c and humid, so we finished a little before the two hours we were signed up for.
We had a short instruction and then went straight to it. I was the third one going up. The first student was a gymnast who had been there last week so she went first to do a different thing than us. Then it was a little girl, maybe 9 years old. And then me. Going up the ladder was probably the scariest part of the whole thing, hahah. So much fun to fly. It took me two rounds to get a real good hang of it, but ones I understood, it all made sense and it was double the fun. I was the first one to get the catching part and I’m actually a bit proud of myself that I managed to do this. I watched my videos this morning that I had taken of my rounds, and I can see the things that needs to be improved:)
It was soooo much fun!! I loved it! A perfect birthday challenge!
After my trapeze class, I walked all sweaty to Tribeca to get a coffee. I looked like I had taken a shower and felt pretty stinky. The only place I could find was FIKA. After charging my phone and cooling off for a little bit, I continued to walk down and over to Battery Park. I put a small blanket out and sat there for about an hour. I went back to Grand Central and managed to run to an earlier train that I had planned. I was back home about 4:30pm, took Thor out and back home again Jim had arrived and laid out a bunch of yummy Swedish treats:) I showered and then we went to have dinner at the Bedford bar. I ordered the burger and omg, that was awesome!
