Why so much salt?

before-the-saltBefore the park was covered in salt

Really, I don’t understand why they pour this huge amount of salt here on NY’s streets. They should get a pat on the shoulder for how fast they work with shoveling the snow, but do they really need to cover every single inch with a thick layer of salt? When I came here four years ago it was a lot more snow on the ground and the shoes I had then got thanks to the salt so destroyed that within a month I had to throw them away. Now we have a little puppy that I’m worried about. We wipe him properly, leave our shoes outside the door and vacuum/wipe the floors more often, but we can unfortunately not stop him from licking the snow when he’s also looking for a spot to potty on. Last night we were up taking care of T’s “nice surprise” that probably was caused by the salt. Poor our little dog. There is, like I said, nowhere we can let him potty where there is no salt and I refuse to (like many people in NY) teach him to use peepads indoors.
I have during the night been dreaming of the future when we live in a warmer place and don’t need any salt on the streets and the wardrobe doesn’t have any winter clothes. That motivates me to get through cold winters in NY for some more years.

Studio time

Yesterday was Super Bowl here in USA. Apparently it was a very close game which made it fun. I was in a studio during half the game though. When I came home I saw the end of Katy Perry’s performance and my husband was in the kitchen making dinner (luxury 🙂 ). The rest of the game, I looked through what I had filmed on my time in the studio.
When I was going to the studio (Gibney 280, old DNA) it almost felt like that I was going on a hot date. A date with the studio. Two hours in a huge studio where only I could decide what I should do and get from the time there. It’s always a bit scary to book a studio, regardless if you book for only yourself or together with other dancers. Like when you sit down with a blank paper and a pencil to draw something. You have an idea, but will it be like you thought? I had a plan but after the first hour of the planned improvisation with some guidelines, I felt that the last thing I had planned didn’t fit in, so I continued with improvisation with a little changed focus. I finished with a totally different theme that I like to work with and love to explore because it challenge me but also feels familiar. I always film everything I work on. If its improvisation you can later see and write down what you like and if you’re working on a choreography phrase its good to be able to see what changes you do so that you later can write it at home and don’t have to take time for the writing in the studio (I always write down everything I create).

Hi my blog readers! How are you? We are having a cozy morning with coffee and music from the record player. Today I have a lot to plan and work on. Tonight is Super Bowl, but I accidentally booked a studio during that time. Oh well, I don’t really care about football anyway, it’s just the commercials and the halftime performance that is fun to see 🙂

Vi akte till Fort Green i Brooklyn och at middag pa The Smoke Joint idag. Riktigt riktigt gott!

We went to Fort Green in Brooklyn for dinner at The Smoke Joint today. Really really good! We saw a food program few months ago where they recommended this place, so today we wanted to try it. The food came out almost directly after we ordered it felt like, which is a huge plus when you are hungry. Though, a kinda typical Brooklyn restaurant with pretty boring wood-design. I ate a catfish sandwich with potato salad and Jim ordered beef short rib with bbq beans and we shared corn. Absolutely worth to try and we will go there again! You can find the menu we had HERE.

Starflakes

Men aja.

On Monday I got to hear about snowflakes that was shaped to real nice stars. I saw some on my jacket then, but I didn’t have a camera/phone then. Yesterday it snowed again and Thor’s fur got full of thick beautiful stars. Had no camera then either 😛 During a later walk I looked for them but them but the flakes had got a different shape, but I succeeded to catch some on pictures, but unfortunately no good on a perfect star. But, oh well.
I like to take time and enjoy what our beautiful world has to offer. I don’t think many on Manhattan takes time to actually stop and look what around them. You run between places and everybody works like machines or robots. You take yoga to “relax” for a while and think that will help before you run to the next place. But maybe you also need to just sit down on a bench and take in what the city has to offer?
