This morning I went to buy myself a cup of coffee and went for a little walk behind our apartment. My husband and puppy was still sleeping and I wanted to enjoy some time with nature alone. It was so foggy that you couldn’t see much. Freedom Tower, New Jersey, Statue of Liberty and plenty of other buildings had disappeared. It was so quiet and peaceful out there by the water. A few runners, some squirrels and only the sound of the calm water.
I’m gonna miss living so close to water. It’s not far to the ocean from our new apartment, but unless I want to go for a really long walk I would have to bike or drive there. That was the only minus with the apartment we picked. We had other apartments in mind close by the ocean but none of them was nearly as awesome as the one we are moving to. I’m excited to buy myself a bike and take Thor for a ride to the beach 🙂

World’s best bar, museum and a drink at the Ritz Carlton

On Saturday we woke up early, bought coffee, worked out for bit and then we walked to The Dead Rabbit for brunch. Last year they got voted the “world’s best bar 2016” and for several years before that they got voted the best bar in North America. So, I’ve been wanting to go there since Jim told me about it a year ago.

I ordered eggs benedict with salmon, which I’ve actually never tried before, and it was really good. The best bar in the world? No, I wouldn’t say that, but it was a cool place. We sat on their third floor where they had thick beams in the ceiling and interesting posters on the wall. On the first floor, which I don’t have a picture of, the ceiling is full of photos and the floor is filled with sawdust. Small and packed with people.

After brunch, we walked over to the National Museum of the American Indian. Not a lot to see there but we walk pass it all the time so we thought, since its free, we could check it out. Downstairs they have an exhibition called “circle of dance” which was interesting of course.

At night we wanted to go to the restaurant by our apartment to hang out with neighbors. The old ladies here are there every single night and we are curious of why. But, this was the first night (like, ever) they didn’t sit at the bar there so we went to have a drink at the Ritz Carlton hotel instead. We have to go to the “old lady bar” another time I guess:)

Friday the 13th and full moon

I had washed off my makeup, brushed my teeth, put on pjs and crawled into bed when my husband said he wanted to go up on the rooftop last night. It was almost 10:30 and I was very tired and ready to sleep, but my husband had a point, this could be the last time we enjoy a warm evening on the rooftop before we move.

Yesterday it was 18°c (65°f) outside!!! “Breaking the previous record of 64 degrees for Jan 12 set more than a century ago in 1890” the headline online said. Such beautiful night. We stood there under the full moon and stars (which is rare, you never see stars in nyc) and just loved life. Its sometimes unbelievable that we actually live in NYC, in Battery Park with the view of both the Statue of Liberty and the Freedom Tower.

I wasn’t prepared for leaving the city yet, I thought it would be like five more years or so, but in a way it feels good to move on. We have been lucky with an apartment we’ve loved, friendly neighborhood and living on Manhattan that has everything and I feel like I have done what you’re supposed to do here. We are grateful for the time we got here and its time for something new.

Almost back to normal

Or maybe this is my new normal, haha. I feel like I have had a cold for a year. But I can feel that my body is weak and tired still from being sick for a week.

I have also not been moving a whole lot since before we went to Chicago. So it’s almost three weeks of doing nothing and my body really feels it. My knees hurt, my arms are weak, my abs disappeared and my back aches. I feel like I turned 80 over Christmas 😀 I definitely lost muscles. I can feel it and I can see it.

I miss my old dance body too. For over a year now, I have seen my body turn more and more into the “average looking workout body”. Dance muscles doesn’t show anymore, I got gym muscles. I don’t care about my body size much, I am what I am, but this major change from dancer to gym’er is not my thing.  I don’t recognize myself anymore. I hope to get dance muscles back. That’s my goal.

We signed a contract for a new apartment!

On Saturday we woke up to a day full of snowing and we almost decided to stay at home and postpone our plans. But we have been too excited about this weekend so we ended up leaving in a rush in the morning before the real snow came down. We took a taxi to Grand Central, bought coffee and took the train to Stamford, CT.

After signing a bunch of papers, Jim and I took the elevator up and walked to the end of the long hallway. I was so excited! At first when I opened the door I thought everything looked small, but after walking around I realized how big it actually is. Our new home:)

We are not moving until our current lease is up in the end of March, but we got offered to put the apartment on hold and be able to sign contract beforehand. Its a brand new building, our apartment is expected to be finished in like two weeks, so that’s why we can sign now and move in later.

We have been there twice before and we decided on this apartment right before Christmas, so I have been excited for a while. Its almost twice the size as our current apt so we need new furniture, so I’ve been on pinterest a lot to find inspiration and find out what I want.

It’s less than three months of living on Manhattan and we have things we want to cross off our NYC list. Its easy to commute between Stamford and NYC (which I plan to do), but it feels nice to cross things off and not have to think about tourist stuff after we move:)
