Babcock Preserve

This morning, we took the dog for a walk over to the yoga studio. A membership offer ends this weekend and for some reason it didn’t work to buy it online, so I had to buy it in person. After that, we had planned on bringing Thor for a hike, but he was so tired from the warm weather that he got to stay at home.

My husband and I drove to Babcock Preserve, a park in Greenwich. We had forgot the bug spray, so we actually didn’t walk that far in. Since it’s been raining for a few days, the ground was wet and there were a lot of mosquitoes. It was still nice though. Birds were singing for us and there were no other people until the end of our walk. We both love to explore new parks. This one apparently has a bigger waterfall that looks cool on pictures we’ve seen, so next time we go there we will def bring bug spray and explore more of the park.

After our walk in the park we drove by all the big mansions. It was hard to see some of the houses since they were blocked by fences and several acres of land, but you could tell that somewhere in there was a giant castle. One house was so big it had its own parking lot. Unless you have a whole bunch of older kids, I’m not sure why anyone would need that much space. There were definitely some details that I like about the houses or entrances though. It will be a while until we have our own house, but I still like to get inspiration.

We don’t have any more plans today except working out at the gym. We are staying at a hotel tomorrow so we don’t really feel like doing much today.

Last minute yoga class

morningyoga-may22-2017

The rain woke me up at 4am today. It took me a few seconds to realize it and then I jumped out of bed, rolled up the curtain and ran to grab a towel. We had the window open and the mosquito net, the window frame, the inside of the curtain and the carpet was all wet. Not a fun choir in the middle of the night. It took me a while to fall back to sleep and in the morning I was too tired to wake up. When I finally got up, I had missed the first yoga class so I thought I could enjoy a nice breakfast and take a class in the evening instead. But I know myself, I would not go there in the evening. So during my walk with Thor I made a decision to take the next class that was going to start in 40 minutes. Quick shower, brushed my teeth, drank a glass of water and then I was off to class. I kinda ran in the rain to get to the studio in time.
I’m glad that I went. After class I felt great! Every muscle in my body had been working and I was ready to take on the day. Or, that’s what I thought. Sitting down for breakfast (yes, breakfast at noon) made me sleepy and soon both me and the puppy were taking a nap on the couch. The whole day just disappeared. I haven’t done anything today really, but I have the whole night still. My husband is going into Manhattan tonight for some work party so I’m going to have dinner, stretch my body, work on a few things on my laptop and go to bed early so that I can get up tomorrow morning with a lot of energy.

Swedish candy and a Swedish movie

Hello new week! We’ve had a wonderful weekend! The temperature dropped a bit from 33°c degrees to below 20, but it was still really warm in the sun.

On Saturday morning we went to Costco to buy coffee and meat. We drove to Norwalk to buy some Swedish things at the Scandinavian Butik. I had found it online earlier in the week and they had a lot of stuff on their website, but the store was unfortunately a bit disappointing. Extremely overpriced and not much to choose from. I bought a “salt och blandat” (salty licorice candy mix) and crackers. We drove a different and longer way home to look at giant houses with front yards as big as soccer fields (and these houses are not even the biggest ones around here). In the evening we went to the rooftop to use the grill. My husband was super excited to grill some meat:) We finished our day with watching the Swedish Oscar nominated movie A man called Ove. For me, that was a painful movie to watch until the very end. People in that movie is one reason why I don’t want to move back to Sweden. The end made the whole movie worth watching, but ya, no, I did not like it at first.

Sunday morning started with my husband coming in to the bedroom with coffee that he and Thor had bought for me. Aww♥ After breakfast, we walked over to a shopping area near us. We were trying to find bike helmets, but they all looked retarded, so we walked home again. We spent a few hours on our terrace. I planted some seeds and replanted a few things that needed new soil. I have no idea what I’m doing, but it’s fun to experiment:) With our sunburned bodies we went to the gym in the afternoon, I organized a few things upstairs and then we had dinner. Pretty slow weekend but we enjoyed it. How was yours?

No early morning class

I got up before 6am, all excited to take an early morning yoga class that I had signed up for. We were four people waiting outside the studio and at 6:45, fifteen minutes after class should have started, the other ones left. I tried to call the number on their website but didn’t get through and then I sent an email to the owner. I walked home and got to spend some time with my husband before he left for work. It’s a beautiful warm day today so I honestly didn’t mind walking there and back. It takes less than ten minutes and there is no traffic that early in the morning so it was very peaceful.

Apparently they had changed the start of the early morning classes to June. She had just forgot to delete in on the website. But I get a free workshop instead so I can’t complain:)

It’s going to be really hot outside today. This morning, after my adventure, I had the downstairs balcony door open and ate my breakfast with the sun in my face. Hot but lovely. Magazines that I got free subscriptions for and a book I bought came in the mail yesterday so instead of doing yoga poses in a studio I read a magazine with ridiculous fashion:)

Homemade bread

Good morning!

So, on Sunday I baked bread to enjoy for breakfast this week. After searching for a simple bread recipe online, I found one that was super easy (sorry, I don’t remember what website). It tastes good and it’s so easy to bake.

.

1½ cups warm water (not too hot, like a baby bath)

1 tbs honey

1 tsp salt

1 tbs active dry yeast (I used a package of 2.5 tsp, which is a little less, but it worked)

3 – 4½ cups flour (I used normal white flour)

.

* Heat the water and mix it with the honey, salt and the dry yeast in a glass bowl. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until there’s foam on the top.

* Add the flour. You don’t want the dough to stick to your hands, so keep adding flour until it’s one non-sticky dough. I mixed it in the bowl and then worked it on a floured counter. Form a loaf and cover with a towel for 20 minutes. Set your oven for 400 degrees.

* Make cuts in the loaf and place in the middle of the oven. Let it bake for 15-20 minutes, depending on your oven. I had it in for a full twenty minutes.

This is so easy! It’s something I’ll definitely bake again:)
