Massage

I have no photo from today, so here’s one from our last vacation (St Lucia)

I mentioned earlier this week that one of our neighbors who come to do pilates/yoga/stretch taught by me at the gym is a masseuse. Because of my tight back and that one spot between my shoulder blades, she invited me to get a full body massage in her home. I’m not just saying this to be nice, but that was probably the very best massage experience I’ve ever had. I was so relaxed, felt so cared for and I trusted her completely. Her massage was amazing, I can’t get over it. Everyone should have someone like her to go to.
My back and body is not magically fixed now, but I definitely feel ready for long flights tomorrow and vacation in Hawaii. I have a few things left to do, like packing our bag and Thor’s bag for his week with the sitter, but I’m already in vacation mode. So excited!!

My Kauai Dream

Seriously guys, I’m so freaking excited about our vacation! This is something I’ve been dreaming of since I was a teenager.
I had a photo I found on google (or maybe it was some other old browser like alta vista or something haha) of the two waterfalls in Kauai (Wailua Falls) as my background on my login on our family computer. I had this photo as my background for years (I also had a picture of a pomeranian saved that I kept looking at) on all my computers and I still have that photo file of the waterfalls on both of my external hard drives. I thought this was the most beautiful picture I’ve ever seen.
Hawaii was on my list from when we read about Pearl Harbor in school (the Ben Affleck movie came out shortly after too, 2001). And then I saw a program called “Sparlost Forsvunnen” which was a Swedish tv-show of people trying to find other people like their birth parents or a lost sister or something. In one episode, a young woman was looking for her father (I guess she grew up with her mother) and after searches around the world, they found him. They showed how they drove on the roads with mountains around them and they filmed the fathers house that was right by the water with dolphins jumping in the ocean in the background. I thought it was the most magical place I’ve ever seen. Kauai Island. I looked it up, as I didn’t know where that was. I found that picture of the waterfalls and it’s been one of my dreams since.
I can’t believe that I’m going there. Aaaahhhh!! I thought Disney World was huge, but this feels bigger. This is something I’ve been spending time thinking about, in detail, how it would be to go there. Disney was a dream that came back every now and then since I was a kid, but Kauai has been on my mind far more often and I have more feelings attached to it.

Family car sticker

I had no idea what to give my husband for Christmas. He is probably the hardest person to give presents to. I always just end up creating something on my own, because he doesn’t need anything. For his one year work anniversary (that he didn’t even know or care about, but I did), I created a flower bouquet out of blue gift paper and blue straws to put in a blue vase. In America they love to sell cards for any occasion and for some reason they think it’s a good idea to write long poems or other shitty crap on them which I think is impersonal and boring. I try to buy blank cards, but usually I’m better off by creating something on my own. Ya, I’m kinda like a child, hahaha, making my own drawings and stuff. My husbands desk at home looks like he has a five year old daughter:)

A lot of cars here have the family stickers. I looked on their website and it all sucked. I created a Thor cartoon kinda right after we got Thor and I thought it would be more fun to have our own design for a family sticker. So, I drew stick figures, custom ordered online and stickers showed up right after New Years. This weekend we got a car wash so we could put the stickers on my husbands car. I love it! It’s nerdy but fun. Noone else has a family sticker that looks like that. Kinda looks like I’m peeing on Thor though, hahahahha.

Teaching: upper body strength, lower body stretching

For last night’s gym hour my neighbor requested upper body strength and lower body stretching. I had her do a few different things, some with props, for her abs, shoulders and arms. When she was warmer in her body we switched to stretching the legs. She wanted to focus on hamstrings so we did a lot of that but I also had her stretch inner and outer thigh and butt.
My husband was done with his workout so he came to join us in the stretch which I thought was nice, even if he kinda wanted to do his own things, haha. My neighbor felt that she was stiff and couldn’t get anywhere with her tight muscles and I could see the frustration in her. But I tried to tell her and make her understand that even a small stretch that doesn’t seem like a lot right now can help her get longer muscles over time. When I told her to release in the hips and try to breathe through it, she almost seemed shocked about that it worked. Both of them got to finish with a savasana. A young woman was on the bike in the same room and to help the two to relax and not focus on this woman’s heavy breathing and the noise from the bike, I guided them through a short series of body relaxation.
My neighbor is a massage therapist and she took a few minutes to check my shoulder blades that has been hurting. Oh man, I am tight, everywhere! I feel like a brick wall. The spot that hurt before has kinda turned into a full back pain and it is now not only affecting one knee, it’s in my hips, knees and feet. I’m a walking robot made out of cement.
On top of this, both me an my husband has been starting to feel sick. Aaah!! Worst timing ever! We don’t wanna be sick on vacation! Positive thinking. Positive thinking. I am not sick. My husband is not sick. My body feels like flubber. My hubby and I will have an awesome time in Hawaii!

Do Yoga, Drink Coffee

I just came back home from a morning yoga class and I bought I coffee from Lorca near the studio on my way home.
There is one spot on my left side between my shoulder blades that has been making me wake up at night every time I turn a different direction for several nights now. This is effecting the whole left side of my body. Tight in my neck, hip is sore and my left knee hurts. I’ve been taking it easy on the upper body all weekend and tried to stretch and loosen up other body parts. Taking a yoga class today felt great. I had to modify some things but moving felt better than skipping going there at all.
Since it’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day today, my husband is off work. It’s nice to have him home for another extra day. Sure, we are going on vacation soon and will spend a lot of time together, but I never get tired of just having him around:) We are going to see a movie later and tonight I’m teaching at the gym.
Have an awesome week!
