Storm day in CT
We had a storm here on Friday. Very windy and our apartment was going nuts. All day we had our furniture on the terrace making lots of noise and I heard lots of sounds from the rooftop (located behind our upstairs office). In the afternoon we had the pipes making noises, fridge made noises, windows were shaking, lights were blinking and internet died. I kept telling Jim to leave work early and come home before the storm was too crazy. He left when the market had closed and by then all the smaller roads had been closed off so he had to drive back to the office and take the highway. But there he saw a car that had got crushed by a tree (on the other side of highway so he could still make it home). Thank G this storm was over by the time we had to fly to Chicago.
Today there is supposed to be a huge storm again. A mix of rain and snow. We got some wet snow but so far it’s pretty calm here. But all yoga classes are cancelled today, roads has been cleared from cars parking there and last night when we went grocery shopping there were plenty of people buying the whole store to prep for today.
Jim is working from home today. He had a doctors appointment this morning anyway so it worked out. I will finish my video that will come up for you guys today and then after noon I’m teaching at the gym. We cancelled Monday’s class so I thought it would be perfect to work out today instead since we are all gonna be home due to the storm.
Party in the subbies of Chicago
We had a very windy storm here in Connecticut on Friday. Thor woke me up at 1:30 am the night to Saturday by barking at the wind. Our terrace is above our bedroom and when there is a strong wind you can hear the furniture wobble a bit and T thinks it’s intruders. I couldn’t fall back to sleep after that, and then we had to get up by 3:30 to get ready. Guess if I was tired?
Hundreds of flights were cancelled the night before because of the storm, but by the time we were leaving (flight was at 6:15am) it was all fine. We made it to a sunny Chicago a bit early. We had all day to hang out before we had to get ready for Sandy’s birthday party. Both my husband and I took a nap after breakfast. After lunch, Jim, his stepdad and I sat outside in the sun for awhile. A real spring day, so lovely!
We got ready and drove to Frankfurt. The party was at a popular Mexican restaurant, Fat Rosie’s. We had tables in the back. We had so much fun. I have never heard Jim’s mom laugh that much, she seemed to have had a great time.
When everybody had left, Jim and I stayed. Bob, Sarah and their friend Mike joined us after a few minutes and the five of us had a really fun evening going from bar to bar. We were back at the house by 1:30 am which is probably the latest we’ve been out since last time we saw Bob and Sarah in June:) So, I was awake for 24 hours and I slept like a rock!
We didn’t do anything on Sunday. We were all tired and around 2pm we left for lunch before we had to go to the airport. We had a fun and quick trip to Chicago. It was nice to be able to celebrate my mother-in-laws 60th birthday:)
A video from our weekend will come up tomorrow, Wednesday.

Coffee in the sun
Watching the sunrise
Sunrise in Poipu, Kauai, a month ago, January 27th
Thor woke us up several times last night. Eventually I got up at 5:30am, took him out and then decided to stay up. Made myself coffee and watched the sunrise. During the darkest winter days, the sun didn’t reach in to our apartment for very long (we’re facing east) but now we are going towards the days with sun warming up our home from early morning til afternoon. Love it!
So, the reason why Thor was awake a lot was because he wanted to run upstairs and see if our neighbors were there. This was because instead of teaching a pilates/stretch class at the gym last night, I had them come over to hang out in the “Fanny Room” (still haven’t come up with a better name). One neighbor couldn’t make it in time so the other one and I decided that stretching and tea sounded good. Eventually the other woman joined us. They stayed for a while. One has problems with her piriformis and muscles around it so the other one, the masseuse, checked her muscles and I gave her some exersises to do to build strength. And then we ended up just talking. We are three women in different ages, but we all have the same things to work on but in different versions of it and sharing can help. It’s nice to have found lovely neighbors that can exchange things – body work, mind work and body care.
After this, Thor wanted to check if they were still there, just like he does when someone is staying over. He saw them leave but maybe he thought they had been sneaking in:)
