Good Morning! How’s isolation life? We are doing pretty good. Mr Grumpy isn’t too happy about the whole social distancing thing but at least he gets to go for long walks and he can snuggle us basically all day if he wants to. I wish we could tell our dogs what is going on in the world right now and that they would understand us.
Most parks are still open which is great, we should all enjoy the outside as much as we can, soak up as much vitamins as possible.
Yesterday after my sister sent a snapchat of her walk by the ocean I felt that maybe I should go for a long walk myself down to the water here. I searched on google maps to see how long it says it takes to walk to the beach park we sometimes drive to. About an hour it said, so not that bad. But, then I saw that it said it is currently closed until after Sunday and my guess is that it will keep being closed after that. That’s a park that a lot of huge families have bbq’s whenever it’s nice weather so I guess the city decided to close it down to avoid big gatherings (I also think that’s the park they have dedicated for testings). Bummer, I’m craving some time by the ocean.
We have to stay at least 6 feet apart from others, which people actually do here, everyone is crossing the street if they can when meeting someone else out walking, and if that is not safe then people are walking on the very edge of the sidewalks to avoid each other. We don’t say hi to neighbors or other dog owners and their dogs, we don’t interact with anyone. I never ever touch the elevator buttons with my hands, instead I wear a jacket and use my elbow and I only go in and out of the building using the doors that opens away from me so that I can use the side or back of my body to push. Right when we come in after taking Thor out, we take jackets off and wash our hands (I always sing Britney Spears “Oops I did it again” which should be enough time to wash hands properly) before we do anything else. Door handles, light switches, counters and sleeves of our jackets are wiped off regularly. We really do try to be careful. If (or rather when) we hear that someone in our building is sick, then we plan on never leaving the apartment and teach Thor to do his business on our terrace. Super disgusting but that’s if we really have to.
The virus is spreading like crazy here in America now and people die like flies. We are ordered to stay at home but I don’t think everyone is following that. Plus, you can walk around with the virus for 2-14 days or even up to 24 days I heard back in January, so there will for sure be a lot more people getting sick over the next weeks.
For some reason they don’t even test people in Sweden unless they are really sick and need emergency care. From everything I read and hear about Sweden, to me it sounds like my country is in some sort of denial and that scares me, I have a lot of people I care about over there, of all ages. In a way I think it’s smart to not test everyone cause well then tests will run out and hospitals will be over crowded. Everyone doesn’t have to know that they have the virus, but everyone should just assume they probably do or probably will. So if the country doesn’t want to test everyone, fine, but then they should at least order everyone to stay at home. I keep hearing of business running like normal, people still go to fitness classes and I see pictures of people hanging out at cafes and playgrounds. Since they don’t do many tests, the overall number will stay the same and people will think that the country is doing fine…but it’s not. No country is doing fine.
We should not be scared of corona, unless we are at risk. We shouldn’t worry about dying, that sort of worry creates chaos among people. But we should care about it, we should stay updated about it, we should wash our damn hands and cover our mouths when we cough and we should stay at home and practice social distancing because there are many people at risk and we care about them!
If you can and are allowed to, go for a walk and enjoy the outside, it’s good for us. But other than that, Stay at Home!
