On October 9th we went to a hockey game together with some people from J’s work. It was the NY Islanders first game at Barclays Center in Brooklyn and their first game was against last seasons champions Chicago Blackhawks. My very first “real” hockey game (I went to the final of college hockey in 2014 in Philadelphia, but I don’t really count college as a real game, haha). I’m not a big hockey fan, even though I grew up in a hockey country, but I have to admit that watching The Blackhawks play, on tv or live, is pretty fun. Lots of Swedish players of course on the Chicago team.
We had a fun night with really good food, desserts and candy 🙂 And the seats were perfect! We had one of the bigger suits right in the middle so we saw both sides well. We had the cameras and the announcers right in front of us. I was starring at some men that I thought I recognize and in the end J told me that they were famous retired hockey players or something and now work as announcers for the Blackhawks. He kept saying that I should go down to them and get a photo, but since I don’t know who they are it would have been embarrassing, hahah.
This was a big deal since it was the Islanders first game and Barclays has never before been turned into a hockey arena. The mayor was there (he got to walk pass us in the vip line to get in) and Alexa Ray Joel (Billy Joel’s daughter, who we sat next to at our favorite restaurant two years ago) sang the National Anthem. The place was not full though and lots of people wore Blackhawks jerseys. I think it was a fun game, it went to overtime with 3 against 3 and then Chicago won.
