Yesterday was Super Bowl here in USA. Apparently it was a very close game which made it fun. I was in a studio during half the game though. When I came home I saw the end of Katy Perry’s performance and my husband was in the kitchen making dinner (luxury 🙂 ). The rest of the game, I looked through what I had filmed on my time in the studio.
When I was going to the studio (Gibney 280, old DNA) it almost felt like that I was going on a hot date. A date with the studio. Two hours in a huge studio where only I could decide what I should do and get from the time there. It’s always a bit scary to book a studio, regardless if you book for only yourself or together with other dancers. Like when you sit down with a blank paper and a pencil to draw something. You have an idea, but will it be like you thought? I had a plan but after the first hour of the planned improvisation with some guidelines, I felt that the last thing I had planned didn’t fit in, so I continued with improvisation with a little changed focus. I finished with a totally different theme that I like to work with and love to explore because it challenge me but also feels familiar. I always film everything I work on. If its improvisation you can later see and write down what you like and if you’re working on a choreography phrase its good to be able to see what changes you do so that you later can write it at home and don’t have to take time for the writing in the studio (I always write down everything I create).
